15 MO DS referral to urology

Hi there,

Im freaking out a little. DS has for the past 3 days been crying every time he does a wee. No fever. He was on antibiotics until last Monday for a chest infection which has now gone, so we thought it may have gone to a UTI after that. Its not really got any better so called out of hours who referred us to the hospital as they thought his foreskin may be too right. The urine test came back negative and the dr said they would make a referral to the urology department which may take weeks and may involve caneras to check there's no issues in his tubes.

I am obviously freaking out.

Does anyone have any experience with this? His testes are fine, hes not bloated or constipated. I'm jumping straight to worse case scenario. If it was something really serious e.g. cancer they wouldnt have let us go would they?

I'd be gobsmacked if that history led to camera tests. Most likely outcome is probably steroid cream to help loosen the foreskin.

Thank you for replying @nocoolnamesleft . I hope so, I'm hoping it won't go straight there. I'm just really worried that they couldn't tell me how to help him, and just said we would get a letter.

I have a friend whose son had cancer which began with problems peeing- a tumour was pressing on the area. No, they did not let him go home. He was kept in and had endless tests with the diagnosis a week later. It was clear that the drs were worried from around 10 hours in. Hope it all works out for your son Flowers

I think you may be over-catastrophising. Ds2 was under urology for a couple of years and had the tests you describe to check that his bladder was emptying properly and that their was no kidney reflux (backwash of urine from bladder to kidney). These sorts of problems are far more common than tumours- and certainly if they thought it was likely to bea tumour youd not be at home now.

Thank you @barbarianmum its good to hear from others who have experienced this, as i have no idea! And I do catastrophise unfortunately, anxiety mixed with babies is never a good idea!
Hes been a little better today, grimaces but no full blown hysterics thankfully.

If a doctor thinks a 15 month old has a chance of having cancer, they don't send a letter. They don't wait on a referral. They pick up the phone. And the child is seen at the hospital by the next working day (same day if it's the morning). Seriously, the 2 week wait is for adults. In paediatrics that is felt to be far too long to be waiting around.

Thank you @nocoolnamesleft I really do appreciate hearing things like that.
