Worrying symptoms.

My dd who is three has some worrying symptoms. She's falling asleep during the day. And hasn't needed a nap in almost two years. She's drinking loads and she's been potty trained for 8months but has recently been wetting herself and it's getting worse. Obviously a lot of these symptoms point to diabetes.

If your kids have diabetes how did it start? When did you pinpoint that something was wrong?

Or if anyone's kids had similar symptoms and it was something else?

I'm going to take her to the gp tomorrow. I'm one very worried mummy.

Good luck with her appointment.

Well done for being aware of the symptoms. How did it go?

Mummymumm · 06/11/2018 15:36

@t1mum3

We haven't had the appointment yet. It's at five. Earliest they could get her in. Hopefully we can get some answers.

Can you take a wee sample with you.

t1mum3 · 06/11/2018 16:15

Make sure they do a finger prick (not wee) test and give her a sugary drink now

t1mum3 · 06/11/2018 16:15

Good luck

How did it go?

t1mum3 · 07/11/2018 11:48

@mummymumm hoping no updates is good news, but if the answer wasn’t good, come back on when you are ready or pm me and I can point you towards some good support

@t1mum3 hey. Got back from the docs yesterday. They said she had thrush and gave her some cream I know thrush is a recurrent sign of it as well. My partner took her so they just did a wee test.

Ok. Was the wee test ok?

Mummymumm · 07/11/2018 12:25

@t1mum3 yeah they said they didn't find anything. Not sure what to do now.. keep an eye out I guess. Thankyou xx

Yup. In your position, I’d keep a diary of symptoms and return to the GP demanding a blood test if they don’t improve or get worse (or if your child starts losing weight). If she becomes listless, struggles to breathe, starts vomiting and/or smells of pear drops, treat it as an emergency. Obviously it’s quite normal for kids to regress a bit on the toilet training from time to time, but you are really on the ball to be on the lookout for symptoms and don’t be afraid to push really hard for a finger prick test if you are concerned.

smell her breath, if it smells really sweet, it could be sign of diabetes. We had it with our daughter, thankfully turned out fine, but trust your instincts.
