Hi all my dd3 has a horrible virus n has had really high temp gp said yesterday I can alternate ibuprofen and calpol. Now I've read the information and I probably sound thick but I am not
But does this sound correct to you ?

First does Ibuprofen 5pm(dd fell asleep)
Calpol 1am
Ibuprofen 3am
She is not awake yet but when she is it will be like 730 ish I know I could give her calpol as it's been 4 hours
And I know it's only 3 times Ibuprofen In 24 hours but I'm label says 6 hours from last dosage gp said 8 Hours ?!
I just don't want to overdose her obviously I just want to keep her temp down and keep her comfortable
Any advice be great thanks xx

I would go with the 8 hours - so
10am next dose if you feel she needs it.
Calpol is four times a day isn't I think. so every six hours it's awful hope she gets well soon.

How old is she?

They have slightly different times between dosages which makes it complicated to alternate exactly - I do one every 4 hours so they both have an 8 hour break. It makes it much easier.

So...
Calpol 12pm
Ibuprofen 4pm
Calpol 8pm
Ibuprofen 12am

Etc.
I also log it in a note on my phone to keep track

The 6 hours will be a minimum.

I would try to leave 4 hours between doses (so if Calpol is 7.30 then wait until 11.30 to give brufen if you can) to space the dosesoit through the day. Obviously only giving if she needs it though.

If you get w chance though I would look up the nice guidelines for treating a temperature as it isn’t recommended to give medicine just to keep the temp down so focus more on how she is in herself

The GP explained to me that the 8 hour guidance from ibuprofen is because you can only have 3 doses in a day and to space it out evenly.

Doctor will have said 8 hours for the ibuprofen so that she is getting dosed up all day. You can give it to her every 6 hours (up to the maximum dose) but you would then give it to her at say 1am, 7am, 1pm and then nothing for 12 hours. If you do it 8 hourly she will have 24 hour cover.

Ibuprofen is max 3 doses in 24 hours which equates to one dose every 8 hours if spread evenly over the time. (The minimum time allowed between doses is 6 hours, but if you do this then you will have to adjust the spacing of doses end up with a gap of 10 hours between doses later in the day, which is why GP recommended sticking to a regular 8 hours).

Paracetamol is Max 4 doses in 24 hours which equates to one dose every 6 hours if you want regular spacing. (The minimum time between doses is 4 hours if you want to bring some doses forward, but will result in longer gaps later in the day).

Agree with @MissClarke86

I do this too, space out and alternate every 4 hours as needed. Means you can’t give too much and covers you if they need it during the night x
