4yo and fibre intake

DS is 4. He’s got what I would say is a very average kids’ diet, but has veered from doing 1 or 2 poos a day to several, so he’s doing a small poo most times he goes for a wee. He’s in Reception and not the best wiper (we do practice lots at home so we’re working on this) so I’m always worrying about him having a sore bum at school....

Typically he’ll eat:

Breakfast - Weetabix and an apple OR banana

Snack - an apple OR other fruit, occasionally a slice of toast

Lunch - ham sandwiches (thin white bread), half bag of Pom Bears or similar, Yeo Valley kids’ live yoghurt, small banana

Snack after school - small bowl Krispies OR a small piece of fruit

Tea - pasta (white, not wholewheat) OR omelette with beans with a small rice pudding

He only drinks plain water. Is this too much fibre? He’s not a veg fan so often eats 4/5 pieces of fruit a day. I’m just wondering if there’s anything we can do to encourage one ‘main’ poo rather than lots of little ones so minimise the wiping and likelihood of a sore bum Sad

Or you could see it as lots of wiping means lots of practice and more likely to get it right sooner.

I don't think that you can regulate a person's bowels like you hope to. But your ds is eating a heck of a lot of wheat. Almost every meal. How about giving him some other grains or sources of fibre and carbs? Oat porridge, for example, jacket potato and beans, pasta sauce with lots of veg blended up in it.

Thanks for replying Jelly

Hopefully he’ll get it right, I know he’s trying so hard but it’s the dexterity, he’s a summerborn so was only just 4 when he started school. He does sometimes have porridge or Krispies but Weetabix is definitely his fave, I’ll reduce the amount of that he eats definitely.
