Asymmetrical creases on baby legs

I took my 7 month old to be weighed last Friday and asked if they can see if there’s anything wrong with his left foot. He’s recently started crawling - well I say crawling.. more of a drag across the floor mainly using his arms and up until recently just one of his feet which blistered the side of his big toes so I got him some crawling shoes and rubber socks. I noticed that his left foot doesn’t bend correctly to go into a shoe.. then when trying the right footed shoe on his left foot it fitting perfectly. He also drags his left leg behind sometimes and now I think about it he used to make it very stiff when trying to do bicycle kicks when he was very small. The health visitor checked it for me and said he has creases on his right leg that aren’t on his left particularly above his knee below his bum cheeks. She told me not to be too concerned until he starts walking but I took him to the doctors today to get a second opinion and he has sent off a referral to be seen by a paediatric consultant surgeon.. does anyone know by personal experience what they will do next at this appointment as the GP wasn’t sure?

They will probably stay to check hip alignment and foot bones, they may make a plan from there that might involve casts or moulded footwear if mild.

My 11month old has uneven thigh creases and GP referred him for an ultrasound to check for hip dysplasia. All fine in the end but glad we checked. I imagine he’ll be scanned before seeing a consultant? Sounds like a good idea but could also be nothing.

I found this website helpful : hipdysplasia.org/developmental-dysplasia-of-the-hip/infant-signs-and-symptoms/asymmetry/

All the signs of hip dyplasia. If you lie him on his back and pull his knees up with feet flat on the floor, are the knees the same level? Have a look at YouTube videos or join the hip dysplasia group on Facebook. They may send him for a scan, but I can't remember if the cut off for that is 6 or 12 months.

Sounds pretty standard procedure. My dd had uneven creases and hip clicking at around 8 weeks old. It was ultrasound up to 6 months here and x ray thereafter. Only a paediatrician could refer her for a scan, so after waiting for a paediatrician referral, then scan referral we managed to get her scanned just before the age cut off. Her hip was all in place but was definitely worth getting it checked.

Sounds like hip dysplasia. Were they screened at a day old for it?
Not sure if all trust's do this yet.
You need a referral very quickly as the older they get the more aggressive the treatment is likely to be.

I would get it checked asap,my dd had hip dysplasia it was missed until she was 3

So sorry haven’t been on this for a long while! We got him referred had an X-ray and his hip bone was only showing on one side. Went back 2 weeks later for ultrasound and the slow side had started to grow! One leg is about a big toe length longer than the other and one side of hip is growing faster than the other. Waiting on a letter from the consultant in orthopaedics as to whether we need to take any steps from here or just give it time to grow! He has started pulling up on things now and seems perfectly fine putting weight on it so fingers crossed all will be ok!

Hey how is your child now? My daughter has uneven but creases and seams to be moving stiff sometimes. Really curious!
