Any ideas what this could be with our 2 week old?

We've checked her from top to toe and this is the only one on her body.

Thanks

Has it just appeared or was it noted at the birth check?
What does your midwife say?

Chris156 · 22/10/2018 14:06

Its Just appeared so know it's not a birth mark and haven't contacted midwife yet, just putting the feelers out there!

Could be a strawberry mark?

Rikalaily · 22/10/2018 14:08

It looks like a birth mark. Our 3 year old got a birthmark on her scalp and another behind her knee that appeared around a week after birth.

Haberpop · 22/10/2018 14:09

Looks like a Strawberry Naevus.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 22/10/2018 14:10

"Strawberry" naevus?

Endofthelinefinally · 22/10/2018 14:10

It does look like a strawberry mark but you should get it checked to make sure.

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2018 14:10

Yeah strawberry birthmark. Contrary to the suggestion of the name- birthmarks aren’t always present at birth but develop over the next little while. It will likely go away by the time she is a toddler.

Seeline · 22/10/2018 14:10

Strawberry mark. DD had one on her arm. Appeared at a couple of weeks. Completely disappeared in few years.

Chris156 · 22/10/2018 14:14

Didn't realise that birthmarks can become apparent after the birth, thank you for the quick responses guys. we shall be taking her to the midwife just to be sure.

I think it's a birth mark-often they don't appear at birth, but shortly afterwards. It may continue to grow as well. Do get it checked-your GP should be happy to see you today.

Although ds, when he was about 10 days old, produced a deep purply blue mark on his arm, around 2" long. It appeared over about half an hour. I think the doctor reckoned he'd been knocked: he described it as "the sort of mark that third children get". It did look like a bruise, but I knew that in the time he'd got it (he'd been asleep) no one had touched him.
By the time he was 10 weeks old he'd shown a tendency for viral rashes, some of which were similar(but smaller) so I suspect it was one of those.

Tidypidy · 22/10/2018 14:22

Ds1 has a mark like this on his thigh. It appeared about a week after he was born and has stayed. It looks much smaller now he's so much bigger! We've been told by his dermatologist it's a strawberry birthmark or pink neavis and nothing to worry about.

TheOud · 22/10/2018 14:29

Congratulations. She’s gorgeous . Does look like a strawberry birthmark. DD had one in the small of her back that was the shape of a 3 pin plug! It faded gradually over the years.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/10/2018 14:51

Yes it is a strawberry birthmark, or in medical speak a haemangioma. DD developed one on her back at 3 weeks old. I panicked as well, and got the GP to look at it. He confirmed it was a strawberry birthmark.

They grow until the child is about 2 years old, then they fade and grow smaller. DD is 18 now and you can't see it at all.

Chris156 · 22/10/2018 18:13

Just back from the doctors, as a lot of you suspected they believe it is most likely a strawberry mark and that it should fade / go away on its own accord. It's our first child so naturally we just wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Thanks for your help and making this Dad feel welcome x

My DD had one on the top of her head that appeared when she was about 10 days old, it grew until she was 2 and then started to get smaller and had disappeared by the time she started school, if I feel her scalp very carefully there is a very small indent where it used to be but otherwise you would never know she had had it now!
