Please help, I'm desperate for advice

Hi :) It's been many years since I came on Mumsnet, probably not since I gave birth to my son, who is now 10. But I really have nowhere else to turn and I urgently need some advice on his health.

He's always been a bit of a pale kid but in the last 6 months he has started to look really unwell, pale with large dark circles under his eyes. He always has a tummy ache, often worse after eating. Some of them, I'm certain have been because he hates his primary school (only a few months left!) and some of them have obviously been real We've been to the docs many times and I'm always being told it's a virus.

Eventually a few weeks ago I pushed and pushed and got him a blood test and celiac screen, results of which came back slightly low white blood cells and slightly low creatine with the doctor saying he was going to get an urgent referral to a paediatrician. That was last Wednesday and I haven't heard anything and he is off school again saying he was too tired to get out of bed.

I'm a single mum, i don't have any family, I'm scared I'm not pushing the doctor hard enough but also scared that maybe I'm letting him get away with bunking off - my boyfriend certainly thinks this and keeps telling me how he was never allowed days off school. I'm completely lost, have no idea where to get help. Our local hospital doesn't have paediatrics although we have been there several times in the last few months.

Does anyone know what low white blood cells (only minor) and low creatine could mean? Should I be making him go to school? Any advice would be warmly received as I feel like I am floundering.

Low white blood cells can be a virus, don't know about creatine.

It could be he has some sort of post viral fatigue.
My ds had a term where he was pretty much out of school sounding very similar. He gradually recovered without any formal diagnosis, but we had urgent referrals to paediatricians and things like that. At the time it was very scary, but looking back it wasn't anything major.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt until you have seen the paed.

I would also tell your boyfriend to fuck off, it’s inappropriate of him to be throwing those comments around. Unless he is a paed? Doubt it, as then he would actually be adding something useful, which he’s not.

My ds was diagnosed with ME as a toddler with similar symptoms. He is 14 now and manages his condition just fine.
Try not to speculate until your appointment. I know leukemia was mentioned when I awaited results as it shows similar symptoms.
Remember dc are sent to test us to the max!

Thanks - I don't think my boyfriend is being an asshole he just doesn't have children himself and he thinks I let my son get away with too much - I think there have been occasions where I have kept him off school when he didn't really need it but the thought of him sitting there all day feeling sad and ill makes me feel awful.

Low creatinine doesn’t tend to mean much, it often means he’s just very well hydrated. On the flip elevated creatinine can mean dehydration or kidney issues. Low white cells can just be caused by a viral or recent infection. Hope he’s ok and feeling better soon.
