DD who is 17 started experiencing abdominal pain , bloating and a feeling of always needin to 'go' about 7 or 8 months ago.GP ordered a blood test which came back normal, and diagnosed IBS particularly as it was worse on a school day.
she started with immodium and peppermint oil capsules which worked to begin with but then became ineffective. The GP said she was havin too much immodium and switched her on to Buscapan which is which is completely ineffective and she has been to see a hypnotherapist.

The symptoms are now worse than ever and more pain than discomfort in her abdomen, and all the time not just at school

We have not had batteries for the bathroom scales for a few months and have just got round to replacing them. She has gone from 8st 9 to 8st 3. Whilst this isn't a huge weight loss it is unexpected , and also she has noticed a small amount of blood from back passage when she wipes
The GP said back in March that her blood test was negative for crohns, coeliac and anaemia.
She is very tired , but she does work a couple of evenings a week and saturday morning doing sports coaching- so maybe this could explain that. But don't most teens work?

Is it possible to get false negative test results?

How are her bowel movements?

Colon cancer, also called colorectal cancer or bowel cancer, can cause lots of signs and symptoms. A person can have stomach pain or blood in the stool if polyps cause damage in the bowel, also called the large intestine, which is made up of the colon and rectum. If a polyp grows too big, stool can't pass through the bowel as it should. This causes bowel obstruction which is painful. Other symptoms are diarrhea, weight loss, weakness and tiredness.

It is incredibly rare in children but does happen, often with a worse prognosis as it isn't diagnosed until much later. I would push for a second opinion. I think the above can be checked for with a stool sample.

I doubt it is the above tbh, because it wouldn't get worse on school days if it was. If it is just ibs, there are other antispasmodics that can be tried.
