Seven year old ds has bad breath

Ds has pretty much always had quite strong smelling breath. When he was much younger he had glue ear, enlarged adenoids and frequent colds/viruses and I put it down to that. However, that seems to have resolved itself and his breath still smells strong. It doesn't have a halitosis type smell though -it's different but difficult to describe.

His teeth are fine - had a check up last week, although he does have his first two wobbly teeth at the moment.

It's at its worst when he's asleep or first thing in the morning.

I've noticed it's smelly when I pick him up from school so other children are bound to notice it sooner or later.

What if anything so you think I can do about it? Or should we just accept that's what he smells like?

Would he be allowed smints or similar in his bag at school?

JustGettingStarted · 18/10/2018 00:18

It may be tonsil stones.

BeaTrewts · 18/10/2018 00:22

I suspect the tonsils too.

My brother had tonsil stones and his breath smelt different to this.

Do you think this is worth taking him to the GP for? I'm worried about making his self conscious - especially if it turns out this is just his natural smell

Does he pee or drink a lot?

Don't forget the classic "pea shoved up the nose" option.

He doesn't drink much... has to be reminded a lot at home so I presume he hardly drinks at school. Maybe that's it!
