Hi just wondering if anyone was a very tall daughter. My 12 yr old is 5ft 7 and I find it hard to find clothes that are age appropriate that will fit her. . She herself is very conscious of her height as she is taller than most of her friends and all the boys in her class!!. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with finding appropriate clothes and where is the best place to shop for tall girls.

We live in Australia where the kids (and adults) are really tall in general and this is interesting as in my DD's class the girls are on average about 5.6 whilst the very tallest ones can be anything from 5.10 to around 6 feet. They're 14 so when they were 12, 5.7 would have been in the taller group but not unusual.

I don't know why I'm telling you this...perhaps to point out that DD will eventually be around tall girls....she won't always be the tallest.

I have found that H&M cut clothing on the longer side for kids. One of my DD's is tall and their trousers have always been a good fit.x

Dd is 11 and same height. We use primark, tesco and sainsburys. Fortunately she's very sporty so more of her to fill clothes so ladies sizes are an option for us. Was harder trying to explain to a four year old the size of a nine year old that Charlie and lola tops didn't come in her size!

Thanks for the replies and advice re clothing shops, hopefully her friends will all have growth spurts this year and with a bit of luck she may be finished her growing.

New Look have a pretty good teen range (although my 5’7” 12 year old needs age 14-15!)

Thankfully her friends at secondary seem to have a lot of tall girls amongst them. At primary she was nearly a foot taller than a couple of them.

I remember the tears when DD was young and we couldnt get character tops in her size or Disney pajamas don't know why they don't cater for tall children

Have you tried esprit? I only noticed the other day that they had a kids/teens range and I've always found their women's trousers crazy long. Germans have long legs!

Ladies/teenage clothes, OP. You just have to keep searching. Try New Look and M&Co and of course Primark.

My 16yo DD is 6' ...... it gets harder. I've had to buy her 6th form suits in Long Tall Sally, which is very expensive and mostly rather frumpy. Although we have managed to find lots of cheaper stuff in the New Look and Next tall ranges. Sigh!

And what size are her feet?

Rowgtfc72 · 13/10/2018 10:51

Don't start on feet. My 11 yr old is size 8. Clarks could offer me two frumpy pairs of school shoes. We ended up with tesco ones which are dying after six weeks. And tesco only go up to an 8

marg12345 · 15/10/2018 08:04

Her feet is 6.5 like you we found clarkes range was not great and she won't wear anything that gives her extra height , we bought school shoes in newlook and are now on our second pair since she started back in September, it is soon expensive having a child who is tall especially in footwear

Could asos tall range help? Not sure how much will be age appropriate but they have a good range. Maybe Dorothy Perkins too?

marg12345 · 22/10/2018 12:03

Great thanks , checked out ASOS and lots of appropriate stuff

I find it funny. At that age most of the girls seem to be taller than the boys in the class. It looks odd. Then within a year they seem to even up and then a year later the boys are towering over the girls.

Second what the above poster said re Australia. Most Australians, either indigenous or white and here for a few generations are tall. By 14yo my DS and all of his friends were around 6’ and continued to grow from there. A 12yo girl at 5’7” would not be out of place. I’m short. In the land of the tall so have the opposite problem to your daughter OP, I’m often referred to as ‘the dwarf’ (obviously I’m not a little person).

I wouldn’t worry about your DD. Soon the boys will be taller than she is and she will be grateful for her height.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it

Top shop do a tall range with loads of jeans and basics like sweater and t shirts.

WanKey · 14/11/2018 22:02

My DD is 16 and 5ft10, 32" leg and the tallest in her class (which she hates). She has recently filled out which means she can wear men's xs tracksuit btms because leggings and joggers were a problem when she was still skinny. Levi's jeans are good as are Gap tall and Johnnie b from boden was good in pre-curves days.

For shoes Nine West go up to at least a 9. And size 8 shoe is not as uncommon as it was when I first reached it 35 years ago -There are rarely 8's in the sale!

I would love my tall girl to appreciate her height (and even wear heels!)

Puppymania · 14/11/2018 22:03

My 12 yr old dd is 5 9 and size 9 feet. Primark is very good and I buy leggings and jeggings from m and s as they do long leg. Primark also have character pjs and onsies in adult sizes so that helps as she likes young clothes. Shoes are a nightmare, she has mens trainers, walking boots and wellies. Managed to find summer shoes from long tall Sally. They go to size 13.
