Possible stroke?

NC as very outing.

A 12 year old girl woke up this morning feeling completely normal.
Around lunchtime she came over funny and said that she felt 'weird', she suddenly went all floppy and lethargic.
She was taken to hospital and while waiting to see a doctor she lost her speech.
She is now currently unable to speak and can only make noises when she's trying to talk.
She has also had loss of vision and cannot make anything out other than colours or shapes.

She hasn't had the tests done yet but would there be any other possible illness that could cause these symptoms other than a stroke?

Some kind of severe migraine maybe? She's the right age to get them (I know a lot of people who got them around this age, myself included, probably related to pubity and hormones kicking in) and they can have stroke like symptoms such as affecting speech and visual disturbances.

I really hope she's feeling better soon, it must be so scary for you all x

I don't think any of us should make suggestions as to what this might be. It has he potential to be rather serious and that must be worrying enough. I hope she is Ok Thanks

How is your daughter doing now OP?

TinyTutu · 08/10/2018 16:32

Thanks for the messages. Tests have ruled out a stroke but still not regained speech. In fact that's gotten worse.
Neurological tests are now being done as they think it is something to do with the nerve endings in her brain.
Further tests this evening.

Really sorry to hear this. Are you in a good hospital? Sounds like you're likely to be in overnight - I hope you have good family support and that you get some answers.

TinyTutu · 08/10/2018 20:12

She's been in for a few days now yes. She's got family with her staying over doing shifts.
She seems to be taking it in her stride and doing well under the circumstances. Just worrying for all concerned how she has gone from perfect health in a matter of hours.
She's in a very good hospital and so we know she's in good hands. Thank you.

I'm really sorry to hear this.

I've been in a similar circumstance - not these symptoms, but something the docs couldn't get to the bottom of.

All I can say is that googling and internet advice didn't help - it could be so many things, I just ended up more confused and scared.

The best way forward I found was to let the doctors do their thing (and everything is OK now)

It's horrid, sorry you're going through this Thanks
