Temporary lactose intolerance

My dd who is almost 4 recently had a tummy bug. She's still having diarrhoea, so we've cut our main forms of lactose (milk, ice cream, yogurt, cheese - or switched to lactofree ones) & she's much better. It's now been 3 weeks, and she ate some ice cream today, and sure enough a few hours later she had some very loose poo, so she's clearly not recovered.

Does anyone have experience of this? How long can we expect this to last? Is it likely to be permanent?

My DS was diagnosed with mild lactose intolerance after repeated bouts of diarrhoea when he was about 7 or 8. He had blood taken to confirm this, we were referred to a paediatrician, had to keep a food diary etc.
We were very careful for a couple of years, then gradually reintroduced milk. He is now 14 and is mostly fine with dairy apart from if he really overdoes it with ice cream! It would be worth speaking to your GP to see if your DD needs testing.

Thanks! Next step is the gp, but we're currently on holiday, so will need to wait unfortunately. I think she's always been a bit intolerant (large amounts of milk have caused some problems), but this is something else.
