Flu spray vs injection

For medical reasons, my son is unable to have the flu nasal spray.

He could have the flu jab but would need 2 jabs as it's his first time of having it.

If your child couldn't have the nasal spray would you go ahead with the injections?

For some reason I'm struggling to come to a decision. The spray feels an easier decision because it's less invasive.

Are you sure they need 2 injections? From what I've read it is 2 of the nasal ones for children with underlying issues but only 1 injection

My child doesn’t have the nasal vaccine (triggers his asthma) from experience the injection is less traumatic, it’s a quick jab a few tears and we are on our way. Unlike the nasal which he had before I made the asthma connection where I had to pin him down and hold his head while he got the second dose after not liking the first. I felt so awful I refused the vaccine the following year and took the risk.

Thanks both.

I thought the first time you have the flu injection, you had to have two, each four weeks apart. This might be wrong though?

He's had flu two years running, just don't fancy risking it for a third year in a row, if I can try and avoid it.

The spray feels an easier option as he'd just have it at school with his friends but maybe not if experiences are having to pin children down to do it!

My dd has had both options (for boring long reasons). She prefers the jab. The nasal spray has to be given in both nostrils and most really dislike having to have a second squirt.

The jab is once only I believe. My youngest had it at 19 months (history or broncholitis) and only had one jab despite being her first time.

Thanks widget. That's made my mind up. I'll ring the GP tomorrow to arrange an appointment for the flu jab.

I can't risk a third year in the row with him having flu.

I've had the flu jab for the last few years and only had one the first time. My daughter had it last year too (can't have the live vaccine nasal spray either) and it was only one. Good luck x
