Hi I'm looking to hear from anyone who's child has had pale stools for a long period of time and is fit and healthy!
My son has had pale (not white or grey)... more like korma/sand... poo for a few months.
I didn't question it because I thought that was his normal and he's otherwise fit and well. No yellow tone to his skin etc.

However he started having waves of tummy ache over the last couple of weeks so took him to the GP. GP is sending him for a blood test.

I've stupidly googled and can only find HORRIFIC reasons for pale stools. I can't find anything to say it's ok and I now feel sick with worry.
His blood test isn't until Wednesday so it's going to be a long painful wait if I don't hear anything positive :(

How old is your dc ? My dd 3 has always had very light yellow poo.
She drinks a lot of milk through the day though.
Don’t google. I’m sure your gp is being on the safe side.

I think it indicates a high fat content. My DC did. They were also milk intolerant. I never worried much.

Test for coeliac and other relevant conditions

bobow · 14/09/2018 20:37

I now realise pale poo was my DSs first symptom of coeliac disease. Have you asked the doctor if he is being tested for that?

Lozzabell · 14/09/2018 20:38

He's 4 years old. I'm literally worried sick. There doesn't seem to be anything other than awful reasons for it.
I'm sure it's not celiac because he's a good weight and doesn't have chronic pain.

Sorry to ask op. What else is running through your mind ?

gnatgnu · 14/09/2018 20:43

My DC was on 91st centile for weight when he was diagnosed with coeliac disease at 3 years old. Pale poo was literally the only symptom....

Moana123 · 14/09/2018 20:48

Both of my children have this - my daughter is 7 now and still has it on & off... she’s fine, has been tested for everything possible, all tests came back fine. doctors eventually just decided this is the normal thing for her body... my son is 4 and is exactly the same, he again has been tested for everything and all come back negative.

Definitely talk to the doctor about your son, but it could just be nothing.

Lozzabell · 14/09/2018 20:52

@Smellybean ... liver problems and other horrible things seem to come up. Coeliac is the best ! :(

I can remember being so worried & stressed about it all when my daughter first started going through all the tests.

I’ll keep everything crossed that it turns out to be nothing for you too!

ABitCrapper · 14/09/2018 21:14

My dd2 had intermittent pale yellow/white poo for a couple of months. As there were no other symptoms the GP was entirely unconcerned. This was over a year ago and she fine now.
No idea what caused it. She gets leg pains / growing pains nowadays but that's it!

Lozzabell · 14/09/2018 22:04

@Moana123 thank you xxx

@ABitCrapper thank you - although his has been pale for as long as I can remember. Apart from when he was a baby and had just started on solids. I'm sure it was brown then.
Hence I've not thought much of it because it was kind of 'normal' for him 😑

My daughter has had white poo and pale poo before she's also goes yellow on her ears. Docs have tested everything. Everything came bk fine. I now realise that she gets this when she comes down with a viral infections or when she's really poorly. Please try not to worry hope all test come back as normal Smile
