Hi

I thought normal body temperature was 37.

Ive Googled and lots of different number come up.

At what number does a temperature start.

My child is 8.

Can anyone advise me please?

Thanks

36.8 ish I have one child who tends to be slightly higher.

Minimonkeysmum · 12/09/2018 12:20

Usually 36.5-36.5 (varies throughout the day). Anything over 38 is considered to be a fever.

Minimonkeysmum · 12/09/2018 12:21

36.5 - 37.5!* My children and I tend to be cooler than my husband - around 36.7 is normal for us.

As above, but the unmber is only part of the story. If they are only a bit elevated but seem unwell I'd still seek review.

37.8 but clearly feverish and lethargic would concern me more than 38.8 but happy and drinking and perky.

Normal is about 37 but varies a bit between individuals and also where you take the temperature.

To be really accurate you need to use core temperature.

It's more useful to know your own or child's normal temp.

Mines on the low side so I can never convince anyone I have a fever if my temp is only 38.

There is an excellent explainer on childhood fever here quoting some relevant numbers.

Also the thermometer will show different temps depending on where you use it...

I've always been happier just feeling them than with numbers, you tend to know when your child is too hot. But yes, 36.5-37.5 is about "normal". It's helpful to have written down somewhere your child's healthy temperature.
