He was diagnosed at 16 months as having toddler diarreah as he was having reoccurring bouts. We kept a diary and it seemed to be when he had anything with any kind of sugar in was the trigger, he has always been a big fruit eater.

He has always had foul smelling wind and has never had a solid poo it's always been mushy like a baby on baby milk. He had a really bad accident at nursery and I took him to our gp today as he's toilet trained apart from poos it seems to be a struggle for him to make it to the toilet or potty on time.

The Dr seems to think he may have ibd or a malabsorbtion issue. He's explained that ds will need to have 2 samples taken and then a blood test before seeing a peadiatrition at the hospital.

He definitely thinks it's one of them as ibs ulcerative colitis and celiac disease is in both side of the families. I'm worried about what it will mean for ds but I was wondering if someone could explain what tests will be done after samples and bloods please.

If they think it may be Crohns or ulcerative colitis will probably do an endoscopy/colonoscopy to diagnose it. I’m not sure what they do for celiac disease as have no experience of that. Hope all is ok.

Thank you for the reply. I know his df had a colonoscopy to diagnose I was hoping it might be something different for little ones.

Bloods for celiac disease as my DD has them done about 4 years ago and she is 8 now...they will look for the anti bodies if they are 96 and above it will be celiac, DD were below but still cause she still had the anti bodies she had a camera down her throat..Hmm..which I thought was odd! As the problem is downConfused I asked them why you going down her throat and not up the bottom end, to which they said they will totally avoid doing that unless it was a last resort Hmmstill from this day , they don't know what is up with her!
Hers was constipation though!

Has he been tested for lactose intolerance? It sounds very much like it , but I'm not a medical person it's just my opinion, hope you find out what it is Good luck 💐

Thank you for the reply cheaperthebetter.

The tests are just starting at the moment. His poo samples went in today we couldn't do it yesterday as it was too bad and soaked his clothes. I know 1 sample is for full cultures and Gp wrote what looked like stool composition but I'm not sure if that's what it said. His next appointment is a next week and then we are getting an appointment to have bloods taken at the hospital.
One of the nursery workers today mentioned a lactose intolerance as she knows someone who has it. I've been tempted to try him with a milk substitute today but I'm guessing if I did that now with the tests starting it would affect the results. So I'm torn between trying something that could help him and just carrying on so we can hopefully find out. It's already affecting him not just by the issues but he was upset today as I had to pick him up early as it was that bad he needed to come home and shower. He said he hadn't had a good day and his teacher said it wasn't his fault but he was sad. He asked if he was a bad boy and refused to leave the house without a pull up on as I think he thought it may happen again but he just had foul smelling wind. He has been in pull ups just at night time as he tends to have more accidents at night.

My daughter did have a colonoscopy, she was 10 months old but was having a lot of problems with blood in her poo. Hers was under general anaesthetic so she wasn’t at all aware of it, I imagine they would do toddlers under general anaesthetic too. Hope you find out what the problem is.
