Yes my dd had it a few years ago, and dd2 will next year I believe. I really don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t protect their daughter’s, and help protect them against getting cervical cancer.

Agree with post above

I know of people who have mysteriously gone down with POTS after having it...it's the only vaccine I'm doubtful about. I don't trust the way the vaccine was tested but accept I'm not qualified to argue either way..

ISeeTheLight · 06/09/2018 18:22

I had it as a late teen, am 31 now. No side effects at all (and I get everything going on antibiotics etc). This was abroad and my DM pulled some strings. Can't see why you wouldn't get it, my aunt almost died from cervical cancer when she was in her twenties and has never been able to have children as a result.

Jjacobb · 06/09/2018 18:30

Yes, three have had it and dd4 will have it next year.
No ill effects at all.
I'm 5 years post stage 3 cervical cancer, I would never want my daughters to go through what I did. The treatment for CC is horrific.

yeah.. they don't half make a song & dance about it Bit tears before and after. Drama Drama Drama.

toothgenie · 06/09/2018 18:49

Boys are finally going to be given the vaccine after a lot of campaigning from the Dental community amongst others. There has been an increase in HPV related throat cancers.

Both of my daughters have had the vaccine with no ill effects.

I work in school welfare and have been facilitating the HPV jab for the nurses for 4 years. The girls make a right old fuss! You'd think we performing open heart surgery on them!

I tell them that this is a wonderful day and that they should be so happy that they are getting this. I then have to explain to most of them what a cervix is and what immunisation means! I wish parents would actually explain their daughters' biology to them and what the injection is for.

Apart from a bit of a sore arm and a few dramatic tears, I haven't seen any ill effects. We are so lucky to live in a society that can offer a child a protection against an awful disease - you don't even have to take the child anywhere yourself and its free.

2 of my friends got cc in their early 30s and had to have radical hysterectomies. Both picked up on routine smears, no symptoms. My mum has had treatment for pre and a girl from my school died from a really aggressive form. Why on earth would you not protect your children from this? Confused

OddBoots · 06/09/2018 20:54

My dd had it, I wasn't sure she would need it as a lesbian but the risks of not having it seemed much higher than the risks of having it given how much HPV there is in the general population.

Jammiebammie · 06/09/2018 21:03

@OddBoots I wondered this too but you’re definitely better getting it done, as you can’t guarantee a lesbian partner can be clear of the hpv virus - I found this quite informative.

KingIrving · 07/09/2018 04:43

DS1 had it last month. In Australia, boys can have it as well. No side effects whatsoever

amilosingitor · 07/09/2018 14:02

Wasn't offered this when I was at school, I discovered from my first smear that I have hpv. I will definitely be getting my girls vaccinated. I don't really understand what having the virus means for me but deep down I have a horrible fear in the pit of my stomach and wouldn't wish it on anyone

My dd recently had hers, the only side effect was a bit of a temp/aching limbs a couple of days after the first injection, nothing after the second one.
I was concerned about it but my niece’s friend has terminal cervical cancer even though she had regular smears.
