Change in nappies

TMI ALERT

DS is EBF and is now 18 weeks. He's on Omeprazole and Ranitidine for reflux.

Until recently his poos would come every few days (explosive!) but over the last couple of weeks we've had up to four dirty nappies a day (mostly one after the other within the space of an hour) and despite moving to a bigger size and trying different brands it often explodes out of the top of the nappy, meaning a complete change of clothes.

The smell has changed slightly too - from the relatively inoffensive milky smell to slightly acidic.

My diet has not changed at all in the past couple of weeks but this does seem to have coincided with a nursing strike- for a few days he would not take from my right breast and for one of those he was reluctant to take the left either (though did under protest).

Any ideas as to the cause?

I think I remember DSs being slightly acidic smelling (also EBF). Can't advise WRT the medication he's on but I'm sure some others can.

As for the explosions.. sadly I don't there's much that can keep it in when it does happen, but I sympathise with the washing you must be getting through! You could double bag him with a bigger nappy on top maybe? Or just have a few sets of 'dirty' clean clothes that you keep him in that you don't mind him getting messy?

When they're that age their digestion changes all the time so hopefully in a week or so he'll settle a bit more and they'll be less explosive!

Did it start after the oral medication as part of her vaccinations? That causes digestive issues for a while.
