What are these spots? (Photo)

My DS has had a handful of itchy spots recently that I thought looked like molluscum, they disappeared again quite quickly so thought maybe I'd been wrong and they were bites of some sort. Today he's come up in lots more, in both armpits and a handful on his back. These look a lot bigger and more angry than before - what could they be? We'll go and see a pharmacist tomorrow anyway, but I'm a bit baffled

He's coming out with more now 😟 possibly chicken pox? Doesn't look much like it to me and he's had it before but I don't know why else they'd keep appearing

I would say chicken pox at a first glance, but it could be a viral rash.

piscis · 07/09/2018 16:00

I doesn't look like chicken pox at all to me...
And if he has already had chicken pox it is extremely unlikely it's that.
No idea about what it can be though, sorry

Twofishfingers · 07/09/2018 16:09

Are they like hives - a bit bumpy?
from the location of them, it could be a reaction to a clothes powder/soap/fabric conditioner. The fabric is very close to the skin in those places and can rub more than say on top of the arms.

Have a go at putting him in a shower or bath with very mild soap, and giving him piriton if not allergic to it. If it's an allergic reaction it will go down quickly. If it doesn't go down it's probably a viral rash, it doesn't look like chicken pox to be as they are more round spots with a dot in the middle full of clear liquid.

My DS sometimes get spots like this under his arms and on his torso and I think they're a kind of allergic rash. They clear up if I give him antihistamine. He gets them when he gets hot and sweaty. The other thing they could be is insect bites - sometimes a mosquito or similar gets into clothing or under the bed clothes and has a feast - but the treatment is the same. You could also apply some Anthisan or other anti-itch cream to help with irritation.

They look like hives, they're quite big.

Fooferella · 07/09/2018 16:17

Definitely not molloscum. That looks like warts. I would say hives rather than chicken pox but I would also say ringing your gp is the best bet.

JellieEllie · 07/09/2018 16:19

Looks like urticaria to me.

trashcanjunkie · 07/09/2018 16:21

Swear rash? Give him piriton and see if they go

trashcanjunkie · 07/09/2018 16:22

Sweat not swear Blush

PlayingForKittens · 07/09/2018 16:22

How did it start? Pityriasis rosea looks similar. It usually starts with an oval, often on the lower back and then several days later spreads. It is non contagious and harmless and is self limiting.
Pharmacist is your best bet and they will tell you to see gp if it is out of their remit.

Pollaidh · 07/09/2018 16:35

Looks like hives/urticaria. Are they slightly raised, possibly slightly warm? They might move around the body, appearing first one place, slowly fading, and then another. I'd give piriton.

perhapstomorrow · 07/09/2018 16:46

I also think it is pityriasis rosea. My dd had this. Started on her neck then spread all over her body. Get it checked out by your gp though just in case it's something else.

Mumto2two · 07/09/2018 19:14

Looks like hives / urticaria to me too. Definitely not molloscum. Hope you get it sorted!

Strax · 07/09/2018 20:38

It definitely wasn't chicken pox. Took him to pharmacist who thought it was just insect bites. He had really intense itching for about 5 days, not really relieved by anti-histamines although the redness did start to go down. Made an appointment with the GP and lo and behold they were almost gone the next day so cancelled it again!

Intense itching could be flea bites - do you have pets? Or has your DS been around dogs or cats belonging to other people?
