How do I know if my baby's testicles are normal?

My 1yr olds testicles always look shrivelled up even when warm, how do I know what is normal? I was changing another babies nappy today and was shocked at how saggy and loose his testicles were!

But all of our body parts are different to other people's!

Your knees aren't identical to mine, my ears aren't like my sister's.

Confused

Very insightful, thank you.

This is a bit silly. All children are different. You ask if his testicles are normal and get the correct response to have a GP check them out. You say you have been told they are normal. What on earth are you doing asking random mothers? If you are not worried, then what?

DitchingTheDye · 30/08/2018 15:29

This really going round in circles. Is asking random mothers not what Mumsnet is all about?

Yes, but we can't give you what you're asking for. We can only give you advice, the best of which is, get the advice of a professional.

NewUserNameTime · 30/08/2018 16:27

Another person saying ask a healthcare professional. From memory there is a HV check around 12 months

Yes, but we can’t give advice on a problem we can see, and you can’t show us.

We can’t give potentially irresponsible advice based on a verbal description because of the risk involved in being wrong.

We’re naturally cautious about talking about anything to do with this kind of subject online because very odd and unpleasant trolls start similar kinds of thread about children quite regularly and we have know way of know that you aren’t one of them.

Finally, this kind of subject just isn’t something you discuss with a stranger, in public. MN is neither as private or as anonymous as you might think.

You can be sarky as you like in response to people attempting to be helpful but that won’t change our answers or our position.

NonaGrey · 30/08/2018 22:27

^^ so many typos. I’ll just assume you know what I meant.

DitchingTheDye · 31/08/2018 09:17

I was looking for experience and not medical advice. I'm not sure why so many people feel the need to tell me the same thing. I don't believe doctors are infallible and I think I am relatively astute so don't think I'll have a problem processing the opinions of strangers. Really all I was looking for was ideas of what to google other than "are my child's testicles normal". I want to do my own research. Why is that such a bad thing?

But that’s not what you asked for in your OP. If you had asked that you might have had more useful responses.

You asked for personal experiences - you must be able to see why that makes posters cautious.

DitchingTheDye · 31/08/2018 11:19

I feel like this is really nit picking now. I didn't ask for personal experience in my op. For some reason you have taken issue with how I asked a question which is fine but how are these pedantic responses helping anyone? I tried to ask in different ways because it's been suggested I am creepy and have mental health problems. All because I have a question about my son's health? Really?

OP posts:
Takfujimoto · 31/08/2018 11:29

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your sons testicles though, your doctor confirmed for you.
If you don't believe your doctor get a second opinion from a HCP, but really asking what's 'normal!' Is a stupid question, everyone's genitals are different, so long as your sons testicles are descended (which the GP should have checked) then what the outside looks like surely isn't relevant unless it's interfering of the function? Confused

DitchingTheDye · 31/08/2018 11:38

It's not necessarily that I don't believe him but I'd like to put my mind at rest by doing my own research. Which I have been doing. You wouldn't do the same?

OP posts:
Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 31/08/2018 11:42

As long as the testicles seem to have descended into the scrotum, he's probably normal. They normally check for this at birth though.

DitchingTheDye · 31/08/2018 11:52

Thank you Chocolate. Yes they did check then and at his last appointment and said they were.

OP posts:
BoobleMcB · 31/08/2018 21:26

Ergo they are normal then. Mystery solved

I wasn’t “nitpicking”. I was trying to help you understand why the thread wasn’t going well.

You’ve been pretty rude throughout the thread so I’ll leave you to it. I hope your son it fine.
