Is this molloscum?

DS (5) has had a rash at the top of his legs/under his bum since May. Took him to the pharmacist, said fungal rash, gave Daktarin.
No improvement after a few weeks so saw GP, said fungal rash, prescribed Timodine.
No improvement after almost 2 months, saw pharmacists again, said fungal rashes are just very persistent, advised Canestan with hydrocortisone. Been using this for a couple of weeks and still no improvement, in fact we now have pustules as well as red, eczema-looking rash. I've made another GP appointment for this week.

I appreciate that 2 separate HCPs have said fungal rash, but is there a chance it was misdiagnosed? Or has it coincidentally morphed into something else? I've seen several posters mention molloscum and wondered if this was it. It's not hugely similar to the pics I can find on google but I guess not a million miles away either. I'm just so frustrated for poor DS, it's been uncomfortable and itchy for months now.
Any ideas wise mumsnetters?

Is this molloscum?

DD has molloscum- GP diagnosed it about 3 months ago. She said that those with eczema are vulnerable as their skin is damaged. She prescribed fusidin cream to ease the red eczema patches and we had to buy a bottle of Molludab (£20) to paint on them. They’re slowly going.

Your pic does look like DDs molloscum.

OuchLegoHurts · 28/08/2018 19:36

Yes it looks like it, but my DD had a more of them, maybe about 15

OuchLegoHurts · 28/08/2018 19:37

And they led to a patch of eczema, but when we started using Fucidin everything eventually went away!

NinjaNiffler · 28/08/2018 19:46

Looks just like my DS' molloscum, which was diagnosed by GP but he just said they would eventually go on their own. He ended up with loads on the back of his legs, lasted for months so we bought Molludab and it worked great. Worth every penny IMO

DearTeddyRobinson · 28/08/2018 20:04

Thank you all so much! DS does have eczema so that fits. I bought some molludab today in desperation so will try it tomorrow. Hopefully GP will confirm. Poor little mite, wish I'd thought of it months ago.
ThanksCake to you all

@OuchLegoHurts there are lots more but I couldn't photograph them without showing a bit too much!

Ah yeah, then it's definitely molluscum! I just noticed that they've left little holes behind her knees where they vanished a few months ago! But very small and will probably stretch out as she grows. Good luck with them!

All you need is sudocream. Cheap and easily found. Cover all spots with them and they will magically disappear!
Both my dc had them and it was the only thing that worked. A mum at school passed on the tip and I've been passing it on ever since!
Please don't waste your money on homeopathy Confused

dementedpixie · 26/09/2018 13:47

Sudocrem isn't really the answer either as molluscum is viral so the body itself needs to recognise it to get rid of the lesions

strawberryalarmclock · 26/09/2018 19:57

I was told it was due to a zinc deficiency and obviously sudocream is a zinc based cream.
Who knows? But my dd, ds and their friends who also had it where successfully treated with sudocream so surely not a coincidence?

Does look like molluscum. It can spread too. Try and ensure they don’t scratch. Once popped they are very contagious. My sons lasted over 12 months. Eventually gone and there was nothing anyone could do except for get antibiotics the few times they got infected.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 30/09/2018 15:28

Is there a big main one?

There is evidence that if u get that big bugger and pop/ burst it, the immune system will attack it and kick in and it will go

OlennasWimple · 30/09/2018 15:32

yes, find the Mother Spot, remove the waxy core from it (as gross as that sounds) and the others should go soon after

Be very careful sharing towels, even bath water. Molloscum is VERY contagious
