DS seems a bit out of sorts - would you worry?

DS has just turned 4. He's normally full of energy, but he was out with DH earlier and hasn't been quite himself since he came home.

It's nothing specific, really... just seems tired (despite sleeping for well over an hour this afternoon; he doesn't normally nap), not eating much (though he did scoff a marshmallow earlier), breathing quite fast and shallow, and a bit emotional.

He says nothing is sore; I suspect he needs to poo, which isn't helping.

Bit worried he's picked up a bug or something; he starts Nursery on Wednesday, so it would be annoying if he had.

Does anyone else find their kids get a bit like this when they need to poo? Or does it sound more like a bug?

It sounds like he’s got a bug on him tbh. The only think that is slightly concerning is his breathing-i’d keep an eye on that. It may just be a 24 hr thing hopefully.

He just fell asleep there, and his breathing seems better, but I'll keep an eye on him. Do vomit bugs tend to develop quite quickly? Just thinking he's been like this since mid-afternoon, so if he was going to be sick he'd have done it by now?

My DS had something similar earlier this month. Very lethargic when he's usually extremely active, barely eating or drinking and practically slept round the clock. By the next day he was fine so we assumed it was some weird kind of virus. Hope you're DS is back to his normal self soon.

BelfastSmile · 27/08/2018 20:22

Hopefully it's just something like that! Don't want him to miss his first day of nursery!

I have a bad fear of the kids vomiting, so that's always the first thing I worry about! I don't really know the signs to look for, and DS can't really tell me yet, so I have a fear that he'll just suddenly throw up without warning!

DS almost 2 has been the same for a couple of days with a bit of a temperature. Calpol seems to help when I can force it down him

moreismore · 27/08/2018 21:03

Tbh whenever my DS has had vomiting bug the actual vomiting is usually the first symptom! We had a couple of days this week where he was off his food, disrupted sleep, cranky etc. Fine now-I put it down to a mild virus. He might just be fighting something off so it never turns into anything. Hope he’s better soon!

My ds always breathes a bit faster when he has a temperature. Hope he feels better quickly.

Quartz2208 · 27/08/2018 21:25

Does he have a temp that can cause most of those and without a specific area sounds viral

BelfastSmile · 27/08/2018 21:39

He didn't seem to have a temp, though I didn't actually measure it - he didn't feel hot, though.

Well, I can report that he woke up with a cold, but seems fine today, other than a lack of appetite! Thanks everyone!
