Any tips for toddler constant coughing?

My 3.5yr old ds has always been prone to coughing post colds. He’ll have a runny nose/sneeze for a couple of days and then 2-5 days after that (sometimes more) will constantly cough. It starts off dry and tickly and then progresses to chesty once it loosens up a bit.
And it is definitley worse at night.

We’ve tried everything to try and ease it from vicks rub, cough syrup, honey drinks, elevating the mattress etc etc but nothing works!!

Has anyone done anything in the past for their little one that has actually worked (even if ever so slightly).

Thanks!

Humidifier in the room, put on an hour before they go to bed. Helps a lot, well it did for us.

Sounds weird but... chop up an onion and put near to where he sleeps.
My DD used to get bronchilitis every year until she was 7.
Pongs out the room but I swear by it
Vicks on feet with socks too

Might be a silly question, but have you been to the GP? DD2 was like this and GP diagnosed a pre-asthma condition and prescribed Montelukast chewable tablets - one per day. They worked really well for her, she took them daily for 1-2 months, but had stopped coughing within a week. She still has them on a repeat prescription now ( a year later) in case she needs them again- e.g.after a cold.

See your GP. My DD has a similar sounding cough and the GP thinks it’s asthma. I’m still not convinced but it’s early days. Worth just checking out-apparently a persistent cough which is worse when she has a cold is typical of the low end of asthma symptoms.

Cross post. We’re using montelukast too.

I took him to my GP the last time he had it (and a couple of times before that) bt every time I get told the same thing, it’s common after a cold etc etc. My husband had asthma as a child (and I did very mildly) so I have often wondered if he could have it or be prone to it.
I have just ordered a humidifier but will also hook doc appointment tomorrow just to be sure.
And will try the onion tip too - desperate measures haha
