I've never posted on here before so please forgive me if I'm not making much sense...

So, my almost 5yo boy (his birthday is next week) is currently a couple of days into an 8 night holiday with his Dad and his side of the family.

I've just had my nightly phone call from him and when speaking to his Dad he has told me he has found a few 'proper' hairs around my little ones 'bits' shall we say.

Before he went away I noticed that under his arms he had got fair blonde hairs but didn't really think much of it. Also, after playing out if he's been running around, he does sometimes have a smell of sweat.

He is a dark haired boy anyway, I'd say more than his friends (has dark hairs on his legs, rather thick eyebrows and hairs above his top lip). I always put these things down to the fact that myself and his Dad are dark haired ourselves. I have had a few hormone issues growing up but never expected something to kick in so young with my little boy. Five seems to be so young...?!

I'm going to phone the doctors tomorrow and get him booked in for as soon as he gets back. However, I was just wondering if this is something that anyone else has experienced before...?

Thank you Smile

Doctors appointment? For dark hair on his genitalia?

I mean this in the nicest way: seems like an over reaction

My 10 yr old is fair and has quite a few dark hairs downstairs. They have been multiplying every year, she was probably around 6/7 when I noticed one or two.

I would take my 4 yo ds in your shoes op.
Peace of mind is important.

Sensible to be seen. Axillary/pubic hair before 9 yrs (8 in a girl) is early. Usually just premature adrenarche www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/gradeschool/puberty/Pages/Premature-Adrenarche-Information-for-Parents.aspx , but very occasionally sign of early puberty so needs checking out.

@Wetwashing00 she does say the child is nearly 5..

You need a gp @Iamgemma

mrsshelby44 · 21/08/2018 05:26

Your kid is 10. The ops is 5. Big difference!

Wetwashing00 · 21/08/2018 08:07

@mrsshelby44
I also said my child was around 6 when I noticed them, which is very close to 5.

If a child had other symptoms like enlarged genitals or voice changes I would suggest a GP.
Dark haired family= Dark hairs.

Thanks for your help guys. Just got back from his appointment and most of you were right... He's being referred to the Children's Hospital hormone specialist. I'm just hoping I've got the ball rolling soon enough for there to be no long term affects.
