Dd cut lip

Hi all

Dd, who is about to turn 2, fell in the garden yesterday and cut her lip.

It's been very hard to get a good look at it because it's so very swollen and the cut is on the inside of the top lip.

We stopped the bleeding pretty quickly and calmed her down. We were going to take her to a&e but I googled it and it said they can't glue lips and tend not to stitch. Only if it's hanging off or won't stop bleeding.

Today it is extremely swollen and the cut looks gapey and is turning white. I'm led to believe the white is a normal part of the healing process but I can't help looking at it and thinking what an awful mess it is.

I'm going to ring my doctor's when afternoon appointments open at 1.30 to see if I can make an appointment. Just to see if there are any signs of infection and if we might need antibiotics.

I guess I'm posting because I'm just so worried about her, she's so small. Have your DC had a bad cut to the mouth? Am I right that they heal by themselves?

Thank you.

Can you post a pic of the cut op? Did you clean it or apply antiseptic to it?

DD did this trying to jump between two picnic tables. Looked dreadful to begin with but healed very quickly. Can you make an appointment with the nurse at your surgery so that someone can just check it out and settle your worries?

Thanks for replies. Can't get a photo because it's so far under the top lip.

Had her to the doctors and apparently it looks ok. She said it looks scary to parents but will heal well on its own and there are no signs of infection. Told me what to look out for in next few days.

Called at the supermarket and the check out lady said "oh have you got a massive, horrible cold sore?" I was just Shock

Yes my ds did this only it was his lower lip and he was 18 months, he tripped in the bathroom and whacked it off the corner of the digital scales. Same as you we were able to stop the blood and calm the crying but it did swell and was split in the middle. I phoned our local children's A&E about 30 minutes after and spoke to a junior doctor who said that unless a tooth has gone right through the lip they won't do anything for it as they heal so quickly because of the saliva. We held ice bags on it when we could (toddlers tend not to wanna stay still for this crap, try and catch her when she's engrossed in a TV show) and if I'm honest it healed very quickly, I'd say under a week.
