6th month baby - multiple dirty nappies, quieter than usual but otherwise fine... ?

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone else had this experience. My 6th month old started doing more dirty nappies on Friday late afternoon. On Friday evening he threw up his bedtime feed - all of it exorcist style. He kept the rest of his feeds down until the Saturday bedtime feed when he did the same as the night before. We took him to late night Dr and he said probably just a bug. From what he said I’m guessing my little one just has a tummy upset but the dirty nappies aren’t totally watery more just like they were when he was a little baby (yellow and seedy like but more of it). He’s also a bit quieter than usual and less demanding during the day - he’s usually super active and hates for example being in pushchair too long but today he quite happily sat in there for an hour. Otherwise normal, smiling and playing during the day just with periods of quietness.
My concern is that’s he’s still doing dirty nappies (6 today and 1 just now) and this will be the 3rd day now and no sign of improvement, and off his bottle feeds (we supplement with bottle, have done since he lost lots of birthweight). He’s happy on the boob. We had started weaning a few weeks back and that was going well but have stopped the solids since Saturday just in case it was that but it seems not.
Some people say perhaps he’s teething but I can’t feel or see any teeth although he does put his hand in his mouth quite often when upset - perhaps just for comfort?
Everything I’ve read online re diarrhoea says watery poo but this is more like mushy pea consistency but bright yellow.
Got dr appt tomorrow but just wondered if this is common?

Runny bum often goes with teething, and sounds likely if he has his hand in his mouth a lot too. Often can’t see teeth until they break the surface. If he seems cheery, would say don’t worry too much. X

Teething! Takes ages for teeth to move down through the gums but the nappies get runnier and that's the start!

I don't think the nappies are much of a concern. DD had a three week episode of between 6 and 8 dirty nappies a day at something like 8 months. GP said not to worry as long as she didn't seem dehydrated.

The quietness could equally just be him suddenly absorbing more of what's going on around him.

It's so hard to tell with babies as they transition into new phases so often with slightly different behaviours. I'd say if you're concerned or just feel something's not right then go with your gut instinct and go to the GP but I know these things with DD have always turned out to be teething or the start of a bug or just nothing in particular.

It doesn’t sound like anything too serious. The main concern is ensuring that he is hydrated until it passes.

Our DD had an upset tummy for 3 weeks between 3-4 months. The GP didn’t seem too worried even though her weight dropped from 30th to the 15th centile. Just told us to watch for signs of dehydration and that it would eventually go. When it recurred a month later, with blood in her nappy, they decided it was related to dairy and I have had to give up all dairy as DD is EBF. Sure enough that has helped and her tummy is fine again. Not sure if that’s just a temporary issue due to the original bug or if it was the issue all along, but I’m hopeful she grows out of it soon.

Thanks for all your replies, so reassuring. He had a generally good night only woke the once but that time was for poo explosion then just woke and clearly had some tummy discomfort (crying and arching back) swiftly followed by poo. He’s had runny poos before but they were more of a green brown colour and I knew that was due to extra saliva production as he was really drooling at the time. These poos are more like early baby poos but guess upset tummy poos can come in various forms!!
Glad we have Dr appointment, I feel he will just reiterate some of the things you’ve said but I’d rather go to make sure like you said. He’s definitely more subdued than usual but not excessively so prob just feeling rotten like we do when we have bug or feeling off.
I’d like them to weigh him when we are there just to keep track of things in case it goes on a bit.
Hopefully his interest in food will come back soon but until then he has my boobs!
