6th day of severe diarrhoea 7mo

My 7 months DS started with severe diarrhoea last Wednesday morning and it's still going, I really thought it would clear up but it's got worse every day, he is filling his nappy every hour sometimes more and every time he passes wind loads of mucous comes out, his stools are just watery/mucousy. It started with a cough a couple of weeks ago then this started, temperature on and off. Has anyone any tips for firming him up as his bums red raw as you can imagine, have had medical advice and they gave him rehydration sachets and said it will pass

My 2yo and 10yo have had this recently - it took a good week to fully clear.

For the soreness, we used fucidin from the gp and also then barrier cream over the top to stop aggravation and as much nappy free time as possible (whilst hoping for no explosions!).

Really plain foods to try and help stodge up plus rehydration salts and plenty of fluids all the way.

Also, worth watching for teething and treating that too - he's of the age to start and that could be aggravating it (ibuprofen and teething salts etc)

sounds like rota virus...
metanium (the sticky yellow one) for the bum .
don't give dairy apart from breastmilk/formula and avoid fruit/berries.

hope he gets better soon.

DS 8 months is just getting over similar, his poor bum was scalded I gave him banana which usually constipates him and it helped to slow things up. Best thing for the bum is to be out in the open air as much as possible, we went through a lot of towels Confused

Thanks so much for the quick replies it's really appreciated

Spinn sorry to hear your little ones have been poorly I will see if the GP with prescribe that, I have been covering him in cream but been changing him a few times an hour and he screams when I do it. He has had Calpol but will try alternating with ibuprofen as he was showing signs of teething in July but it seemed to settle so they might be on their way

Blue thankyou, he was weaning and having porridge, yoghurt and fruit etc but had him just on milk and rehydration sachets since it started as didn't want anything to stimulate his bowel

WeShould sorry your DS has had it, he started nursery in July so no doubt it's a sign of things to come, he loves bananas so will get him on those and I have booked a few days off work so will get the towels out tomorrow

Thanks again everyone

if you are using wipes - stop for now.
they sting and make it worse.
a flannel & warm water of warm chamomile tea is gentler

Thanks Blue

I'm pleased to say there's only been one dirty nappy since 4pm yesterday and it was bigger and looking to be firming up so looking like things are clearing so thanks again for the tips, he did have mashed banana for tea and some banana porridge this morning so think that may have helped
