Chickenpox Scars

Sunshine818 · 09/08/2018 08:41

Hi. Our DD had Chickenpox 6 weeks ago. She has many scars which don't seem to be fading at all.

Any ideas to help the healing process and reduce the scars? She's very self conscious now and it's really affected her confidence.

Hey,
My daughter still has lots of red scars too.
I am hoping they fade in time.
Maybe some will scar forever but hopefully not.
I still have one pox scar on my neck and I had them when I was 5.

Sunshine818 · 23/08/2018 06:57

Thanks for the reply. They have faded somewhat but still very noticeable. Here's hoping that time is a good healer. I think there may be a few permanent scars from the worst ones but the smaller ones I'm not too worried about. She just wants them gone now and is really upset by them Sad

How old is you dd? My daughters had them at 2. She is now 5 and the pitted marks are becoming less noticeable as she grows up but are still there if you look for them. Hers are on her forehead and temple. As children grow, I’ve heard they flatten out. Red scars fade away eventually

Bio Oil is supposed to be good for scars

Sunshine818 · 23/08/2018 20:12

She's almost 7. The redness is still very obvious on them so I hope after a few more weeks they will ease off a bit. She has a few pitted ones too so expect the wait will be a bit longer on those ones.

We have been using bio oil, not much difference yet but might need a few more weeks of use. Bless her, she just wants them to go away now.

They will fade as she grows. Some bad ones don't go but she is only 7, she will likely add to her scars! Dd and ds1 don't have any cp marks left I don't think but ds1 in particular has a couple of small scars from other things on his forehead. Ds2 had cp very badly over 3 years ago and his body is covered. Mostly now they are white marks on his torso which should blend in with sun exposure etc as he gets older but he has some on his face which are proper pits and which I think are there for life. But given that he was hospitalised with them I'll the the scars happily over other possible outcomes.

Red marks will definitely fade eventually, can take months,, Pitted marks do stay but in children there is more of a chance they will
Become less deep as the child grows.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I started using Bio Oil 8 days ago and although the scars are still the same the redness has gone down massively, they are not nearly as noticeable as they were and DD is feeling much more confident already 😁.

Hi @Sunshine818Sorry I know this was a long time ago but please can I ask how your DD’s scars turned out? My DD has been through something similar, most threads on here are about babies and toddlers recovering from cp scars so would be good to get a perspective from someone who’s child was slightly older (my DD is 8)

Hiya, original poster here. I can confirm they do get better with time. My DD is now 14, she has one of the pitted scars still on her nose, one on her cheek and one on her forehead. All other scars have gone and you can only see the ones she has if you're really looking. Time and bio oil are what helped us, i would say after 6 months the scars were minimal and after a year barely noticeable. Hope your DD is healing nicely, let her know they really do fade x

Hi @Sunshine818 Thank you for taking the time to reply, it’s really encouraging. My DD’s scars are improving very slowly and I can see the craters slightly filling in, they look awful in certain lights but in reality they’re not deep at all so hopefully her body can heal. We’re only 2 months post pox so I need to remember it’s a marathon not a sprint!
