the chicken pox vaccination - is it worth getting?

DD almost 4 is about to start pre-school. Neither she or my DS (almost 2) have yet had chicken pox. I have a baby due in the next month.

Is it worth getting DD vaccinated against it before she starts, to make the highly contagious inevitable a bit less bad if she gets it immediately and I have a newborn an 2 year old on my hands?

I've had all my three done , if you can afford it then it's nice to know they won't get something that can be very nasty.

I wouldn't bother, it's not the end of the world to spend a couple of days on the sofa with lots of films in your jammies. I didn't even know there was a vaccine, I thought chicken pox was prevention for other more serious things.

My first sailed through chicken pox, my second suffered really badly and is scarred significantly from it. We vaccinated the third and I would do so again in a heartbeat. I wish we had vaccinated the other two.

It is a live vaccine so there might be problems with your dc having it whilst your pregnant. Double check but otherwise I'd definitely do it.

If you have the money spare then yes. Both mine had the vaccination, neither caught it when it went through everyone else's kid at nursery/school.
Why let them suffer through an illness that can be nasty and is so easily prevented.

I think it is a personal choice. Mine got chicken pox at nearly 4 and then 15 months. The 4yo sailed through it but younger DS had a tough time of it, but was young enough to sleep a lot and was still bf so got comfort that way. I was a SAHM at the time so no leave from work needed.

Complications happen but are generally rare in younger children. I had said before mine that I would get them vaccinated if they hadn't got if by 11. If you don't get paid dependents leave, then it's probably more cost effective to pay for the vaccination than take time off.

Having had a child hospitalised with C pox yes I would get the vaccination! It's far from a mild illness for some children.
