Son is 3 and was sick overnight Sunday. He has since remained home each day rather than go to nursery. He had one runny poo yesterday evening and one this evening. Apart from this though he is fine.

Am I right in thinking this isn't diarrhea? Surely for it to be diarrhea it has to be more often than once a day? He seems better in himself but he hasn't been eating enough to get normal poo back. I am just confused on what I should do on this one, I take the day off work again and he isn't ill then it's not going down well...

Nope 48 hours since last sick or diarrhoea.

Otherwise you are potentially infecting a bunch of other unsuspecting children.

A loose poo that isn’t right clearly indicates that your Son is still unwell.

Haudyerwheesht · 17/07/2018 19:31

No he can’t go until 48 hours after last symptoms .

Sick + runny poo + not eating = symptoms

bobstersmum · 17/07/2018 19:35

He's not better, you need to keep him off.

Peaspleaselouise · 17/07/2018 20:21

He’s still contagious, you need to keep him off.

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2018 20:23

You keep him off to avoid spreading infection.

Luckymummy22 · 17/07/2018 20:39

Is he having dairy? I would definitely cut that out for at least next 24 hours to give his tummy a rest. Give him the BRAT diet.

BlackInk · 18/07/2018 09:37

The occasional loose poo can be normal for some little ones who are otherwise well - sometimes caused by teething, diet etc.

But your son was sick overnight on Sunday followed by runny poo on Monday and Tuesday! This definitely sounds like a tummy bug, and as others have said you need to keep him at home until 48 hours after the last episode.

A light diet with not too much milk should help his tummy settle when he feels like eating again.

Thanks for the replies. I was in denial! Trying to convince myself my son wasn't still ill. I'm sure anyone who is/was a working mum understands that feeling of desperation.

I am thankful for your advice and for you not telling me to stop being an idiot! He is still ill and likely to be for a few more days at least. I am a teacher and tomorrow is my last day before the summer. So looks like I am going to have to take that off too, but what else can I do? I spoke to the doctor and he told me this is quite contagious and I should keep him home. Any willing volunteers to look after a child with a seriously stinky bum?? Grin

Juggling work and sick children is an actual nightmare.
But you've made the right decision, and hopefully other parents will be equally considerate and it will be a long while before you DS picks up another bug.
Hope he's on the mend :)
