Only one chicken pox spot

Hopskipjumping · 16/07/2018 15:02

My son was exposed to chicken pox two weeks ago. On Saturday evening a spot appeared on his groin and I expected more to follow. Its now Monday and still just one spot. Its itchy and sore.

I went to chemist and the pharmacist said it wasnt chicken pox as there was just one spot. Unless more appear its a heat spot especially due to location of spot (where his trousers sit). Im not sure however, any opinions.

Is it a blister or a spot? X

Hopskipjumping · 16/07/2018 15:07

No id describe it as a spot rather than a blister.

Prob just a heat spot. I’ve never know chicken pox have just one spot. All my four children had a lot of spots. Some were fine and others were very poorly. Hope your little one is ok

I've literally just spotted this one under his armpit when I was checking him over which must have appeared today.

I got chapter and verse on chicken pox from NHS direct after a scare when DS was a month old and my elderly mum thought she'd never had it (it is awful in adults). They said it's so catching it unlikely she didn't have it when her two sisters did. You can have it very mildly and not even have spots.
On the downside, you can have it twice and once you've had it you can get shingles and I know someone whose had that twice. And it's really nasty.

Hopskipjumping · 16/07/2018 15:14

It could possibly be another heat spot however.

My daughter only had about 10 spots, not even sure it was that much, it took a while to realise she had chickenpox only knew for sure because other children from her childminder had it.

bellinisurge · 16/07/2018 15:18

I know someone who only had a couple of spots. And someone else who only got it as an adult and was covered with them. And very poorly.

Gard21 · 16/07/2018 15:24

My DS had 6 spots and DD only had 2 one on each buttock. My mum told me I had them every where.

Everytimeref · 16/07/2018 15:24

My son only had about four/five spots whereas his brother two weeks later had masses!

purplecorkheart · 16/07/2018 15:46

I had two visable spots when I had chicken pox and about 5 in my scalp.

Hopskipjumping · 17/07/2018 10:39

He has 6 spots now so definitely chickenpox.

My 3 year old has 4 spots on the soles of his feet?!! He’s had HF& M before so I don’t think it’s that, but it doesn’t look like CP either !

Hopskipjumping · 19/07/2018 22:24

He has them on the soles of his feet and hands. If your unsure a couple of days will probably tell you whether it is or not. I found them slow to start but once they did they are everywhere.

CP is going round here so time will tell I suppose

TinselAngel · 19/07/2018 23:20

There will probably be even more tomorrow I'm afraid...
