For ds 5 - has a big one on side of foot but no way will he consent to freezing or anything that hurts. Happy to go nuclear (as opposed to homeopathic) Thanks

I've used this, it's jolly good.

Duct tape. Strange but true.

Seconding duct tape!

I had some frozen twice, and it didn't hurt (but I'm an adult - how old is DS5?). That was at the doctors. However, I'm sorry to say, freezing them twice didn't make a jot of difference and it took 3 years for them to eventually go away on their own. I asked the doctor if there was anything that could be done, and she said no.

Bazzuka got rid of DS's (4) but not dd (6) who ended up having hers frozen twice. It did not hurt her a single bit.

Ds5 is 5. (Shudders at the idea you may have thought I have five sons!)

I treat lots of children for verrucas. Verrucas go away anyway in time without treatment. Using over the counter treatment will just macerate the skin and often make matters worse. I see lots of youngsters with nasty messes on their feet after being treated with bazukka etc. Verrucas are contagious so make sure your child wears socks at home and preferably flip flops in the shower or you will all have the verrucas. I would recommend keeping it covered with a zinc oxide tape and it should go away eventually. You need to change the tape daily, but applying any kind of acid ie over the counter treatment is not recommended for any age children.

Duct tape totally worked for us!
Bazuka gel or similar over counter treatments really hurt and didn’t work on dd or on me when I had one.

We used duct tape on dd plus plaster tape/surgical tape to keep it on. Every so often we would file it down then reapply the tape. It only took a few weeks before it just came off one day when redoing the tape. Friend has since told me to also put nail varnish on but haven’t tried this.

My son is 16 and has had a verruca since he was 8. GP froze it twice, back when he was in junior school, but it didn’t help.

We have had it checked recently, while we were at the GP for something else and they confirmed that they no longer treat them, as treatment just damages the skin around the verruca and does nothing to remove it. It’s basically a virus and will go when the body manages to conquer it. They don’t/won’t refer for help, even though it’s been there that long, unless it becomes painful or infected.

He wears one sock at all times but, being a teenager, is not the most reliable and none of the rest of us have ever had a verucca.
