Nits

Hi hope it’s ok to ask about a minor thing like this .
We have nits , found out late Friday evening before a weekend away so dashed out and bought lyclear . Treated my boys one of whom was the source of the infestation. Sat morning I conditioned and combed his hair and still found baby’s/eggs . Big boy clear .
Little one says he is still very itchy so what next ? Obviously I can condition and comb daily but I was wondering if I could treat again . I’m sure years ago we used hedrin? But don’t remember leaving it on for 8 hours .

What is you best recommendation as I just want this over

YOu can buy a 5 min treatment which kills the eggs aswell -

Yes I would treat gain

However - he maybe reinfected so it won't 'cure' the problem - just keep an eye out

Sorry - also go to the chemist and get some teatree oil - add a few drops to his shampoo or conditioner and a few drops straight to dry hair in between washes (saves a fortune on special shampoo)

When you get rid use Aldo's green kids all in one shampoo and conditioner, it's got natural not repellent in. The buggers haven't come back here (yet!), Seems to work

My advice would be to buy a fine toothed metal comb - I have a nitty gritty one.

If you can comb out the eggs every day then you will soon be nit free. Medication can be very ineffective.

I comb mine as a preventative/checking each week to make sure it's always caught quickly (ie one or two lice before they begin multiplying)

it's got natural not repellent in

It's teatree oil

Shinygoldbauble · 15/07/2018 09:36

Hedrin Once is the best in my opinion. It's an oily treatment that kills the lice and the eggs.
Tricky to wash out but I used a deep cleansing shampoo the last time and put loads directly on the hair before wetting and it worked well.

ElfrideSwancourt · 15/07/2018 10:11

Hedrin Once is the business- expensive but it works. If your boys have short hair it makes the whole process less fraught- DD2 had long, thick curly hair getting the nitty gritty comb through it usually ended up with us both in tears 😭

Jackreacherswife · 15/07/2018 10:36

Sorry that should have read natural nit repellant. Which @greentulips correctly says is tea tree

Pinkpeanut27 · 15/07/2018 11:17

Thanks will get tbe hedrin once I knew I shouldn’t try to cut corners .
He has not been reinfected as he has been at home but I get that is a risk and have some repellant . Also will continue to comb out every day until clear then every couple of days .
Thanks

We comb every third day for about two weeks and that does the trick (think that's what's recommended on the NHS website too) - we've never had to use any other treatments.
