Low white blood cells DD aged 8 Out of my mind

Hi I’m hoping someone can help me please. My husbands niece passed away in January aged 23 of a rare blood disorder called TTP that she never knew she had. We all as a family had our bloods tested and my daughter who was 7 at the time came back with slightly reduced white blood cells. I think they were 3.8. Doctor wasn’t overly concerned and said I didn’t have to have them re tested but I said yes. The first bloods were taken on the 15th February. She had tonsillitis on the 1st February.

She had the second bloods done on the 16th April. They came back Lower which I think again was 2.8. The doctor has referred her to the heamotogist and that’s on the 20th July. He said over all her white blood cells were fine, but this just one element was low. (I can’t recall what element her refered to) he also said that everything else in her bloods were fine. Overall she’s a veg healthy now 8 year old, with lots of energy and is well, but did have a stomach sickness bug last week. I’m out of my mind with worry. I’m on meds for anxiety. I’ve done the evil google which has made me worse. Has anyone experienced this, either with yourself or your little ones? I can’t begin to tell you how worried I am. Any help would be very much appreciated d

Hi there can be various reasons for low white blood cells. Some as simple as vitamin deficiency. What is her diet like generally?

One of my dc has ttp and from what I understand, it being fatal is v v rare. He has to avoid things like rugby and rollercoasters, but other than that, life carries on as normal and it's no big deal. The only signs are occasional random bruises.

If they suspected cancer (which is what I'm guessing you're worrying about) the referral would have been under the 2 week rule, and possibly much faster as this concerns a child.

I've no idea what else it might be, but the timetable for this referral does not follow the cancer protocols.

Hi thanks for relying. Her diet is quiet good. Has lots of fruit and likes certain veg. Try to get her to eat as healthy as I can. According to first doctor I spoke to he said her vitamin d was low but didn’t grant medication. My son who’s 15 is on meds for vitamin d. To be honest the first doctor I spoke to didn’t seem to know what he was talking about. He said he would refer her to the haematologist and after weeks of hearing nothing I rang them back and he never did it!!

It’s then I demanded to speak to a doctor and this doctor was the one who said overall her white blood cells were fine apart from one element. I’m so paranoid and my anxiety is through the roof x
