Rash on my sons body

Hello ladies,

My son has developed this rash on his skin and I'm not sure what it is.

I called 111 on Sunday and had an ambulance take him into hospital, as his temperature was 40c and he was unresponsive. I was told by a doctor from the hospital that has caught a virus. I took him back to the doctors on Tuesday as he became worse. I was given antibiotics for him to take, and was told it is heat related and he has an infection. I called 111 this morning and was told this was Scarlett fever and to take him back to the doctors.

Has anyone had any experience with something that looks like this?

It almost looks like measles. Does he have white spots inside his cheeks? Anyway, I am sure you have been given the right advice.
Hope he feels better soon.

It could be measles or scarlet fever. One has no treatment the other is antibiotics which I assume you are taking?

If it is scarlet fever the antibiotics will sort it out, if its not and its just viral it will sort itself out once his immune system beats it. All you can do is finish the course and keep pumping fluids and keeping his temp controlled. If there is no improvement in his form after 3 days of antibiotics then speak to gp again.

Scarlet fever. It will need antibiotics as untreated can lead to serious complications.

Keep an eye on his temperature, if it is continually high and won’t come down with calpol then I would have a look at Kawasaki disease (it’s rare but mimics the symptoms of scarlet fever) additional things to look for would be skin peeling off of the feet and toes as well as hands.

We had a brush with scarlet fever a couple of years back that required two rounds of antibiotics (so 4 times a day for 20 days) and the dr did have concerns over Kawasaki due to the peeling skin on her feet but as her fever could be broken with calpol it was ruled out.

You have my sympathy if it is scarlet fever as it can knock them off track for a good few weeks afterwards. I think it took DD a good 2 months to be 100% herself again.
