Is this chickenpox

My nephew was with me & my kids (6&1) on Monday. On Monday evening he got a few spots which my sister assumed was bites.

Tuesday he got a couple more.

Wednesday morning there are no more. He only has about 10 spots. Seems fine in himself.

Is it chickenpox and has my kids been exposed on monday? Im not sure whether to keep them away from each other but if they're already exposed I would like him to still visit us and I look after him some days.

Yes that's chickenpox. Some kids don't get many spots. It's fine for the kids to play together but keep them all away from the general public/public transport/parks museums and libraries until all the spots on all the children have crusted over. Chicken pox is usually mild and doesn't bother the child that much but the quarantine is vital because pregnant women and immuno-compromised people absolutely must not be exposed to the virus at all.

Thanks for confirming. Since my kids have been exposed, should I keep them indoors or wait until the spots appear?

Don’t keep your kids in. Incubation can be up to 21 days and they might not even get it. My 3 year old has surely been exposed a few times at nursery and hasn’t had it yet!

It does look like a mild case to me. The blister look of them is exactly how chicken pox spots look.

DD only had 3 spots the first time she got chicken pox, around 20 the second time she got it and the third (and hopefully final) time she was covered head to toe in spots. (Each case was confirmed by Drs so definitely chicken pox all 3 times). Your children might catch it but I think in very mild cases it might not spread so easily- I know that was the case with us. The two mild cases she never infected any of the other children that she (accidentally) exposed but the last time round she did pass it to her cousin who she was playing with earlier that day (first spots noticed that evening)
