Hi, my 2 year old in into her 4th day of chickenpox. She is very sleepy, miserable and covered in spots SadI am concerned as I have noticed a red area on her eyeball which has a yellow spot in the middle. Could this be a chickenpox (pock?!!) I have made an appointment with her GP later this afternoon, but could anyone tell me if they have any experience of chickenpox on the eyeball, and if it can threaten vision? Am I worrying irrationally? TIA

Ds2 had the pox recently and had some spots on his eyelids. Dr said if any appeared on the eye itself to take him to a and e as they would need to be monitored.

Thanks for your reply, wasn't sure if I was overreacting. I hope your DS is all recovered now.

He is better thank you. Had two weeks off school though.

Agree it needs to be taken seriously. Dd2 had one right on the eyelash line and was checked carefully. She permanently lost a chunk of eyelid and those eyelashes 😣 but sadly I don't know that they can do much except watch and wait? Maybe anti virals to calm it down? Good luck.

They will give eye ointment or drops. Can’t remember which one, but it sometimes causes a corneal scar which affects vision.

Thanks for your replies. DD wouldn't let Dr look properly. Dr said nothing to worry about, was just broken blood vessels?! But I can see a yellow spot in the middle, husband can also see it.

Maybe phone eye casualty for advice. Be prepared that you maybe asked to go in to be seen and you'll have to pin your DD down if necessary for them to look

Take her to a&e. A friends son had chickenpox right next to his eyeball on his eyelid so she took him to a&e and they gave special cream to protect his eye from the infection. I've had many incorrect diagnoses from gps regarding children's medicine so if you have a children's a&e that would be even better.

Go back.

I think an optician is a better person to check the eyes if you can get an emergency appointment

Sorry just seen the other replies.

DD seems to have another spot on her eyeball now, so going to see another GP for second opinion this afternoon. I hadn't thought about an optician, that would have been a good idea. Will see what the GP says and go from there.

Thanks all for your advice.
