9 year old daughter

I’ve noticed a small ball patch on the top of my daughters head, no bigger than a 5p possibly smaller. I noticed it a couple of months ago but it was so tiny and barely noticeable and it didn’t change for ages now it’s gotton a little bigger and more noticeable. She is very sensitive and I haven’t told her about it because I don’t want her getting worked up so ideally I’m trying to avoid doctors. I’ve seen jojoba oil can help hair loss so I’ve added that to our shampoo and conditioner and applied as a scalp treatment (I told her I was doing it for dry scalp) She has been showing signs that hormones are kicking it, mood swings etc. I started puberty around that age so I’m thinking it maybe it’s connected but I never had hair loss.
I’ve read doctors will give treatment similar to what you can buy in the shops but I don’t know where to start and I don’t want to cause more harm when she is only 9.
I know I sound vain but I am really worried about it.
Can anyone offer any advice or reassurance?

Thankyou 😊

You say she’s very sensitive - could she be pulling it out? This can sometimes be related to anxiety.

I was going to say the same. I used to pull my hair out and got patches like that.

Filzma · 24/06/2018 22:46

It could be a ringworm, (tinea capitis). It does keep spreading and the patch could become bigger and bigger. Pretty common in kids. I had it as a kid and because it wasn't treated early I have a bald patch - got to the roots.
May be worth seeing the GP for some antifungal cream before it spreads.

IlikemyTeahot · 24/06/2018 22:48

could be a fungal infection

Betty74 · 25/06/2018 06:50

I don’t think she is pulling it out.
It’s not red or anything either, so not sure about infection?

Can I buy an anti fungal cream from the shops and apply it just in case? Xx

You can buy shampoo called Nizoral over the counter at the pharmacy. It's anti fungal, you can use it once a week for 8 weeks. You leave in it for 3 mins (that's the hard part). You can tell her it's a conditioner or put it in a different shampoo bottle.
