Bad hayfever - school trip tomoroww

Ds is 11 and has a school trip tomorrow. The trouble is it’s an hour away and outside in a field. Am I being unreasonable to keep him at home as pollen is set for very high and he is already suffering? I’m known as a worrier so difficult to make a decision. He is taking lots of meds - antihistamine, eye drops, steroid nasal spray. All the usual cap, sun glasses etc.

From a fellow hayyfever sufferer, I'd still send him, it sounds like fun.

Does he have asthma that is worsened by the pollen count? That's the only time I'd be considering pulling a child out.

Agree with Passthecake. I'm a hayfever sufferer, and used to get it really badly as a child, but I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on a school trip.

If there is a risk of an associated asthma attack, then obviously, that's different, but otherwise, I'd dose him up and let him go. What does he feel - does he want to go or would he rather stay at home?

Unfortunately he is going to have to learn to with hayfever, and I say that as someone suffers but I can not take anti histamines.

Yes pollen is very high this year but you really need to carry on as normal.

Unfortunately he is going to have to learn to LIVE with hayfever

Ok thanks for replies. He does need to a inhaler when pollen is high and also hives which is making me more worried.

What are they going to be doing in the field?
My kids school is so cautious they would definitely follow precautions to avoid sun burn/ heat stroke etc. Plus if they know he has asthma won't they keep an eye?

Every now and then there is a weather warning for asthmatics (smog, sahara dust etc). It's those days I would actually agree with (being asthmatic myself) but for a normal, but hot day, I would send him.

I also used to get hives up my thighs when younger, very very itchy but no long term effects.
