Would you see the GP?

I don't know if we've just been unlucky and I need to see GP or if I am being overly anxious after a long run of two kids with chickenpox. Would you see the GP for these?

Child one
Had chickenpox 2 weeks ago. Pretty bad case, but OK now and back at school. Has been complaining of headache and stomachache since. Since yesterday has had swollen knuckles. No significant pain.

Child two
Chickenpox started this week. Much milder case, but had some sort of seizure on Monday. Taken to hospital, unsure if some sort of protracted faint or a febrile convulsion, but happy to discharge. Chicken pox without complications until yesterday - now has bloodshot eye that is painful and sensitive to light.

Any ideas? I'm so sick of chickenpox. Thanks.

They both need to see the GP. It’s possible to get inflammatory joint conditions after a viral infection. Eye may just be conjunctivitis but worth checking just in case. Hope they feel better soon!

Thanks. Have called GP to book a phone consultation for child 2. Child 1 is at school so I'll mention when I talk with GP re child 2 but will see how she is after school?

Nurse practitioner called back - doesn't seem to be concerned about either child.

Ok that’s good! Keep an eye on the knuckle swelling though, it definitely needs checked if it doesn’t improve. You may also notice swelling ‘flitting’ between different joints.

If the child has a chicken pox spot in contact with the eye or under the eyelid they need treating as the virus can cause corneal irritation and redness and corneal scarring. If so needs eyedrops. Don’t be fobbed off

Hi, I hope you got to see a GP today. I was told when my DD2 had a chicken pox spot on her eyelid that if the eye became red or painful, we should go straight to an A&E with an eye department. Good luck.
