Does this look like chicken pox?

Hi,

22 month old DS generally unwell Wednesday night. He had diarhrea/on and off high temp Thursday morning till Friday morning. Started to seem much better in himself, temperature eased off and by last night he was pretty much back to his usual energetic self. Woke up this morning with these over his cheeks, arms and legs. Starting to appear on his back and chest too.

To add he has eaten fine today, no temperature and has been running around the house like a total loon all morning!

Does it look like chicken pox to you?

Thanks for any ideas!

It’s hard to see, but it looks more like sweat rash than chicken pox to me? Chicken pox will look like proper fluid filled blisters

ErictheGuineaPig · 17/06/2018 10:59

No it doesn't, the spots are usually bigger with a distinctive fluid filled head on them. I have no other suggestions though I'm afraid! Hopefully just something viral that's now on its way out.

No it doesn’t. Chicken pox are more blistered. Do they blanch under a glass?

Being well in themselves is always a really good sign. Mine often get a post viral rash, although it’s usually a bit paler and each spot is wider.

Thanks I thought they would be bigger and more grim looking too!

I'm not sure but when DD and DH had chicken pox it started like like before they got larger and more blister looking. I guess time will tell. Hope he feels better soon.

He is asleep so will try glass test when he wakes up

Yup they disappear in seconds with a glass held on them

Take him to a pharmacy - they are really good and no queues - better safe than sorry

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2018 11:13

Looks like a post viral rash to me, too, which does fit with his symptoms. Glad he's feeling better!

Nogodsnomasters · 17/06/2018 11:28

Looks like a viral rash to me, my ds always gets them towards the end of the virus when he's actually perking up, they can take up to 2 weeks to go away. As long as they disappear under pressure like you say and the rash isn't annoying then I'd be inclined to leave it since you have managed the whole virus at home so far xx

user1483473283 · 17/06/2018 11:58

Thanks everyone. Not really sure what to do if anything. He is happy enough, it fades with a glass but I am worrier haha! This is the rash on his face now...

Google Roseola... could be that?

Nogodsnomasters · 17/06/2018 18:00

This is one of my boys viral rashes when he was 1 yr old, I thought it was chicken pox but it def wasn't. It took about 10 days to go away. Doc wasn't one bit worried as he'd had a recent virus and they disappeared under pressure. It covered pretty much his whole body by about day 3 of it. It's extremely hard not to worry when it's your own but I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps reassure you. Of course if anything changes then seek advice but if your ds is really perking up I wouldn't worry about the rash on its own.

Thanks... he is completely fine in himself been playful and energetic all day eaten his dinner etc. He did go off to bed fine but is up being a nightmare to get back down but think thats temper where he was cuddled/held asleep/coslet when he was poorly last week and he just isn’t on board with being back in the cot. May take him to the GP tomorrow just to put my mind at rest!

Dr confirmed viral rash this morning and that he is totally fine. Thanks for the reassurance yesterday!

No problem, glad you got the reassurance needed. It's awful seeing them with a rash on their usually perfect little skin, probably will be the first of many but at least you know the pattern now (viral rash tends to come out when they start perking up at the tail end of virus and always disappears) xo
