Hi, this is my first time on, my 12yr old son will not try new food, the food he eats are chicken soup, spag hoops and chips he'll drink smoothies fresh orange, yoguts, he won't eat bread unless its in his soup. He started when he was 2 & a half and he had 3 ear infections in a row. The doctor says as long as he's trying then he said he'd be ok but my partner thinks that it should happen over night and is getting a tad frustrated with him.

I would try putting a small amount of new foods on a saucer next to his dinner, and ask him to try one of them, every meal - just a spoonful of whatever you are having (a spoon of peas a bite of the meat, a spoon off potato, etc). No pressure, no excitement. A 'lick' is fine.
They say it takes several tries to begin to accept a new food or a new taste, and I'd ask that he just tries one of the choices each time, before eating his meal.

Oh I really feel your pain. My 10 year old ds has always been an extremely fussy eater, he’s improving a little with age but mealtimes are a real battle ( and I’m ashamed to say it’s a battle I’ve stopped fighting because I can’t handle the stress of trying to get him to try new things ). He eats the same few meals on loop, has the exact same items in his packed lunch every day for school. Moans every morning when I ask him to have Cheerios for breakfast (the only cereal he will begrudgingly tolerate) rather than plain bread. His twin sister is not an adventurous eater either but thankfully she will eat a bigger variety of fruit and veg so I don’t worry about her as much.

I’m so sorry that I don’t really have any advise but thought I’d let you know that you’re not alone.

If you're worried that he doesn't get enough vitamins and minerals you could mix nutrigen vitamixin sprinkles into his food. They really don't change the taste of the food. I realise that it doesn't solve the problem entirely, but it could at least weigh up for a lack of a varied diet.
