Hi firstly apologies for no paragraphs on my phone and cant get it to work! would like some advice please I've seen the doctor once about this and am going back as still the same. My little boy keeps complaining of a funny tummy. Some times it's after eating sometimes it's in the night and at other times just random times in the day time. He has a poo most days but every now and then it will be very runny and lumpy and quiet forceful when coming out. I'm going to get him weighed as doctor said to keep a eye on that but he wasn't really worried but I've waited the month he asked us to and no improvement so am going back . I want to push for tests but don't know a awful lot about what to ask for. I wondered if it was too much wheat or another food intolerance ? Some times he eats a bit of a meal complains of the funny tummy but then 15 mins later is saying he's hungry and eats the rest. I've done food diary for last 2 days in case anything is jumping out at anyonee on what could be causing a problem. Thursday- breakfast he had half a apple, small bowl of dry bran flakes about a large handful then one and a half slices of brown seedy toast. At nursery he said he had s milk when I picked him up he had some kids rice cakes ( these are his favourite snacks ) Then we went to my grandma's for lunch so that wasn't a very good lunch- one slice of pizza and one of garlic bread, grapes and smoked cheese then half a caramel short cake. When we got home he had a banana only ate half. Tea - whole wheat cous cous salad with onion, pepper, sugar snaps, carrots. Boiled egg, cheese cubes and broccoli. Milk before bed. Friday breakfast was the same as thursdsy plus some strawberry. Snack again just had milk and some rice cakes when I picked him up. Lunch - brown pitta, baked beans, cheese cubes, raw carrot sticks, grapes, strawberry, and a yoghurt. Tea- fish pie it was haddock with onions and garlic in cheese sauce then potato on top with brocolli, green beans and spinach on the side Then milk before bed. His breakfasts are usually pretty similar maybe he might have croissant or little pancakes i make with mixed berries , almond and oats in now and again. Lunch tends to be sandwich , beans on toast, scrambled egg ECT with fruit and veg. Then a yoghut or buiscuit or piece of cake if we have baked Tea he eats a variety from pasta and sauce , sausages, mince hot pot , curry, roasts ECT always has a few veg on the side. Grateful for any advice on what could cause the problem or what to ask for. He also always has dark circles under his eyes but does wake up far too early so could well just be because of that

Could there be too much fibre in his diet? I'm not sure that small children need as much as adults.

I have IBS and if I ate everything you have listed I would never be able to leave the house.

Frogqueen13 · 16/06/2018 07:01

That is a massive amount of fibre! Perhaps cut down and see if there is an improvement
Too much gives me a bad belly

neveradullmoment99 · 16/06/2018 07:03

Could he be lactose intolerant? Sounds like he is intolerant to something.

Sleephead1 · 16/06/2018 07:14

oh I never thought of fibre I guess it could be . What would you change? stop the bran flakes is a easy one then is it too much fruit and veg or the bread ? my dad did say he eats a lot of veg but I thought he just ate a normal amount ? Il keep a diary and show it to the doctor and I would like to ask about allergy / intolerance testing. The strange thing is he's always eaten similar but I guess something could be irritating him now. Il cut down fibre from today what do other peoples children eat just for rough ideas ? I hate the idea that I could be causing a problem with his food so happy to try any suggestions

Keep the veg and ditch the bran flakes and reduce the amount of wholemeal items.

I can't eat wholemeal stuff as it gives me dreadful diarrhoea, so I eat white bread and pasta.

Ask the doctor to do a coeliac blood test (autoimmune disease where body cannot digest gluten).

Sleephead1 · 16/06/2018 16:51

will as doctor about that thank you. Do you all think white is better then I do usually go with brown. We eat all pasta white/ brown and lentil but bread/ rice ECT we always have brown I thought it was best. Il cut fibre and see what happens but also keep a diary for the appointment. He had the same breakfast as had already had it and for snack had grapes, cheese and rice cakes for lunch a cheese twist , strawberry, spinach, carrot and yoghurt. He just asked for a glass of milk and for tea we are having fish fingers, new potatoes, carrots, broccoli and peas. Does this sound better fibre wise? Thank you everyone I'm hoping it something easily solved and not a allergy

Is he pooing regularly (every day, similar times of day is best)

Sleephead1 · 16/06/2018 16:57

He's poos every day pretty much if he's done a very big one might miss a day but not always at the same time some times it's always in the morning then might change to night time

Might be worth look at this chart, just to reassure yourself that the tummy pains aren't constipation related

Sometimes eating a high fibre diet with not enough fluids can make you constipated, so it is worth checking out.
