Hi. Dd is 8.5 and has most adult teeth but not all. Her top teeth rest over her bottom lip and there's a huge gap between her top and bottom teeth.

She has been referred to an orthodontist for their opinion.

Does anyone know how likely it is for any corrective treatment at her age? I know that 13 is usually the age for braces but that seems a long time to leave it and it is damaging her bottom lip Sad

Thanks

Not an orthodontist or dentist but had 2 children need braces. I think it's not on age but they wait until all baby teeth are out before they fit a brace , so working with adult teeth.

DS had an issue when his 2 front adult teeth came through age 8/9. He had a removable brace age 10. That might be an option for your DD.

It would be unusual at that age. DS has a severely overcrowded upper jaw and was referred to an orthodontist aged 9.5 they took x-rays said yes he would definitely need braces but they can't start treatment until all his baby teeth are out.

He's 11 now and has 4 left so still waiting. Dentist has said to let her know as soon as they are out and she will re-refer.

I started orthodontic treatment at 10 with spacers being placed and then had teeth removed at 11, nightime headgear and then train tracks for 18 months or so- I had a 'mature mouth' though. The good thing was that I was done with braces before 14, including the retainer pretty much. I also had a chunk of gum removed to close a gap between my front teeth.

So I think it probably depends on whether all her adult teeth are through.
