Gluten intolerance?

Hi,

Hoping someone has some advice. My dd is almost 13 and has been suffering with intermittent tummy ache for a while now, we've been keeping an eye on it and a bit of a food log and it seems to be linked to her eating bread etc. For instance, she had pancakes this morning for breakfast and it's flaired up. It's not all bread though, white slice toasted doesn't seem to affect her, but a 'better' for want of another word, does - she had baguette in a cafe and that did.

The tummy ache is just below her belly button and can vary from an ache to a sharper pain which she got with the baguette.

Does this sound like a gluten intolerance or coeliac disease maybe? I'm waiting for a call back from the GP but thought I'd appeal to the wisdom of MN as well.

Thanks

I have one son who has coeliac disease and another two are wheat intolerant, is she get any other symptoms apart from the stomach pain?
It will do no harm her having a blood test for CD so definitely ask for one, you need to be consuming wheat products for six weeks before testing, so don’t cut back on those yet, I think it’s aleay meant to be in two meals a day.

Thanks for replying. Yes she’s been feeling sick but not actually being sick and had been a bit more trumpy than normal. I’m obviously it wanting to diagnose myself but is there anything I should watch out for?

I’d read about the blood test so I will insist on that. Good advice about keeping some gluten in her diet, thanks. She ate a pretzel at lunch and it’s set her off, so that plus flour in her pancakes this morning so I won’t give her any more today
