Impetigo ? Y/N

My 20month old came out in a blister just broken his knee on Monday. Since then the blister popped and has continued to grow.
On first visit to GP I was given antibiotic cream for it. It still continued to grow and get worse so I took him back.
They have now said they think it's impetigo and has prescribed a course of antibiotics.
My issue being he's had it for a week before we were told 'impetigo' which as far as I know is highly contagious. But he has been sleeping with me and everything. Yet me and my partner haven't got anything and his single blister has not spread.
Anyone got any ideas what else it might be ?
Thank you in advance.

Just to add it is growing still on the new course of antibiotics and is causing him pain and discomfort. It scabs over and then the skin around it blisters and pops and so on. It started the size of a small pea and is now the size of a 10p.

Whilst impetigo can spread it does not always. My eldest son was plagued by it. It loved to begin in any small scratch or nick to his skin that he had and would then spread out from the original small injury. It can take a bit of time to find the right anti-biotic treatement for some of the bacterial varients that set off impetigo so it is worth going back to the doctor if the current course has not cleared it.

My son was severely affected. What started as a teeny patch continued to spread as we worked our way through a range of antibiotic creams, practiced good hygiene. In the end he had more than eight hands size of open skin thanks to the infection and had an urgent referral to a skin clinic at hospital where they cultivated the bacteri, found he had a methicillin-resistant infection. He was prescribed the bactroban cream with icathapaste dressings to protect his open skin, a special anti bacterial body wash and assorted ant-biotic tablets. That finally nailed it.

Truly hope the doctor is soon able to provide the right treatment for this and I do hope your young sons skin is soon drier and healing

Contagious is said to be really contagious. However my son had a nasty case a couple years ago - all over his face! He shares a bed with me and oh most nights. Had played with and cuddled his sister etc but none of us got it. Am I right I’m thinking you can only catch it if you have an open wound? I might be wrong but I was convinced we’d catch it but we never did! 😊

10yo DS had impetigo for weeks, recently, without treatment. Nobody realised, nobody took precautions, nobody else caught it.

We've had similar experiences with conjunctivitis and even norovirus.
