Toddler growth

Hi

I had nearly 2.5 year old DD. I know growth rates slow down as they get older but my DD hasn't grown at all since December..

In December I started measuring her against the door frame.... I did it again in April and no change and just did it again and still no change. Is that normal?
I'm buying her clothes that sold as 12-18months old! And she still fits clothes she was wearing last summer!

She's always been small so not worried about that so much.... just the lack of growth!

She's my first so I have no frame of reference!

If your worried then I would get the health visitor to monitor her growth 2-3 monthly to establish what's happening.

Sometimes underlying problems illness (coeliac/-allergies) can effect growth so worth keeping an eye on

Thanks for replying.

She has a dairy intolerance and allergic to egg. She had a really big for about 3 months where she was being sick most days as well just worried it's stunted her slightly. But didn't know what growth rate was normal.

I called the health visitors as she hasn't had her two year check booked yet! But her original health visitor doesn't appear to be around anymore so waiting for someone to call me back Hmm

You could look at the height percentile charts in the red book. The centile lines on the various charts do plateau at some points so you might be reassured!

But I do think that if you're at all concerned I'd definitely book to see the health visitor clinic or GP.

Children with allergies should have their height monitored if there are concerns. Did you get to the bottom of the sickness?

They weigh and measure at the two year check. The percentile height chart is in the red book as shoes says. Give you a good guide. Weight and height should be within two centile a but it's the pattern of growth that's important.

I've blimming misplaced her red book... in the house somewhere but prob in a box after we redecorated. Gonna have to have a proper search for it.

Drs have been barely interested in her allergies! Was a struggle to even get the tests etc.

We saw a consultant for the sickness and she just put down to interiorist .... don't think that's how it's spelt though! 🤦🏻‍♀️
It started when she had hand foot and mouth and she had it previously last year after hand, foot and mouth.... months of vomiting each night and then it just suddenly stops.

Here's the WHO growth centile chart:

I've had to battle to see medical professionals for DD's allergies as well. It's horrid, isn't it?

Are you substituting her dairy with high protein alternatives? Dbro’s son was intolerant but they supplemented his dairy intake with Alpro Oat / soy milk + the lactose free high protein baby / toddler milk to prevent stunted growth as per a throwaway comment by one of sil’s midwives. You can just pick it up from the shops, no need to get a prescription.

distantstars · 27/05/2018 22:08

She has Alpro toddler milk twice a day x

You could check her growth centile with your gp. Child growth foundation parent forum are healpful too.

Growth rate is very individual in my experience. That being said, kids need certain minerals for proper growth (calcium etc.). There's one food supplement from nutrigen called "growmega", which has all the most important minerals and vitamins for growth in it, you could try that one :)

distantstars · 08/06/2018 14:22

Found her red book.

She's still in the 9th percentile at 83cm... so guess that's ok.

Got a letter through for her 2.5 yeah check as well ! 👍🏻

No actually I plotted it incorrectly.... she's on the line for the 2nd percentile 🙁

Well how tall are you and her dad? If your her mum I mean.
If you guys aren't tall chances are neither will she be.
Sorry if I missed it.
