11.5 month DS w/ blood in poo etc...

Firstly apologies for the nature of this post.

Friday, DS did a normal, if not slightly squishy, poop in the morning and for rest of the day had a tummy ache (classic arching and curling up movements whilst moaning).

Saturday morning we went to change our DS (11.5 months) nappy, to our horror we found he had diarrhoea with bright red blood and clots. It was like looking at a mid flow period with poop (oh that image is horrid, sorry!). After we cleaned him up we noticed he still had blood dripping out of his bum.

We took him along to Walk-In Centre. DR said its normal for babies to bleed like this (news to us?!?) and as he is completely fine apart from occasional tummy ache she wasn’t concerned and sent us on our way.

Sunday morning he finally done a poo after much rolling around moaning. Although there was no blood this time, it resembled orange and green jelly...

Sunday night and this morning he had 2 further questionable poops, this time like orange water with seeds (bit like BF baby poop but runnier).

He was also sick a few times. Continues to be fine in himself though?

Not sure if just to keep an eye on him or take him back to Dr? Just seems odd that its like his poops aren’t of a baby that is eating solids?

I would take him back to a doctor with that story, some of the things you’re describing sound like a condition called Intussusception, which is serious andneeds treatment. Hopefully it isn’t but always better to get checked out.

Thank you Topbiscuit we shall take him along tomorrow!

Hi this is my first post but had to reply. As topbiscuit said it does like symptoms of intussusception. My youngest had it at 10 months old. We were initially dismissed by the hospital who said he had a tummy bug but I knew it was more than that. He ended up being very poorly as it wasn't treated straight away. He had to have an operation. I really hope your LO doesn't have it and all is ok. If they carry on being sick and the sick is green in colour then this is a sign there is a blockage somewhere. Take them straight to hospital.

TSJ19 sorry you had to go through that and thank you for replying to me.

I think DS might be okay though hopefully? Although he was sick a bit more last night with green slime, this morning he has done a poo that contained massive chunks of last night's dinner so although it appears to have been undigested and gone through him pretty quick at least that must mean there is no blockage?

Taking him to Dr's today anyway

I hope your LO is ok. Please let us know how you get on.

Apparently its just teething related?

Still having strange poops now and only really drinking milk - just playing with food or when he does eat it he just sicks it straight back up. so odd.

Hi What are his poops like? Do they still have Blood in them? I would take him back again to be checked over. Bless him

TwittleBee · 31/05/2018 10:36

We have only had 2 more with blood, rest have been very very runny

So for 10 days he's been throwing up regularly and doing unusual poops 3 of which have had blood which isn't from a straining tear? I'd be straight bk to gp with a dirty nappy in tow and ask for a stool sample to be tested. Or id skip gp if you think you aren't being taken seriously and go to A&E. 10 days of vomiting and those descriptions of poo especially the first one is not normal, sorry.

TwittleBee · 01/06/2018 07:35

He's very much okay though in himself. Although he is refusing solids unless it's his favourite food. I'll take him again tomorrow to the walk in centre (it's attached to a&e)

Agree with posters above. Doesn't sound like a tummy bug at all and definitely not teething (my paediatrics prof used to say 'the only thing that teething causes...is teeth'). I'd be asking to see a paediatrician, even if he's well today, and telling them exactly what you've told us.

TSJ19 · 01/06/2018 09:55

I would take him back today to be seen. Please let us know how you get on
