Calpol dose?

My son is really poorly with chicken pox at the moment, he is four on Sunday, the calpol doses are between 2-4 and 4-6, should I give him the 4-6 dosage? He is 103cm and 2.9 stone/37lbs. Thank you.

If the box says you can, and he's feeling very rough, of course.

Dermymc · 18/05/2018 22:16

Give him the bigger dose. It will help him feel better and it's not like he magically is ready for it on Sunday.

AlpacaLypse · 18/05/2018 22:18

Go for the 4-6 dose. Have you got some baby Ibuprofen to double dose with?

Chickenpox111 · 18/05/2018 22:19

Thank you, it just confused me I thought it maybe based on weight or something and paracetamol scares me as it's quite easy to OD, but I am shattered, we haven't had much sleep Smile seems a silly question to ask now Blush

They shouldn't have ibuprofen when they have chickenpox x

steppemum · 18/05/2018 22:27

The dosages on the box are very conservative with plenty of room for error, so giving him the 4-6 dose will be safe.

The doses are based on weight, so if he is much smaller than average, then maybe don't use the higher dose.

paradyning · 18/05/2018 22:30

Don't give ibruprofen with CP. just calpol.

SweetPeaPods · 18/05/2018 22:31

I’m sure the 4-6 dose will be fine.
Please don’t give him ibuprofen as not advised for chicken pox.
Good luck, it’s horrible

Chickenpox111 · 18/05/2018 22:32

I will give him the higher dose, he's not slight so I don't know what I'm worried about Grinand yes, you can't use ibuprofen for chicken pox, I had no idea until we went to the doctors for his pox and she mentioned it as we were leaving. Parents/carers should be more informed of this because I would have had no idea and would definitely have double dosed with ibuprofen and calpol if she hadn't mentioned it.

@Lmj25 and @Chickenox111 poo really?? Thanks I'll try and remember for future. I'm now in elder sister/aunt generation, advice changes all the time, one of my daughters has just got engaged so I imagine in 5 ish years I'll be Granny generation!

AlpacaLypse · 18/05/2018 22:38

Sorry @Chinkenpox111 yet another time that Edit function would be helpful! I had no idea that Ibuprofen was contra indicated for chicken pox. Glad it's all coming together, hope he's feeling better soon.

Chickenpox111 · 18/05/2018 22:40

Yes as far as I know it's not widely known? We are on a UK holiday at the moment (I know, with chicken pox!) and I have had to buy more data over and over to gaze at chicken pox advice, so if doc hadn't mentioned it and if I had no internet to get the information myself I wouldn't have known at all. When I told my mum she was Shock she had no idea either.

Back in toddler time we had chicken pox break out on the ferry to France for one child, and other child went sick with it half way down a mountain in the Auvergne a week later. Oh the joy... Grin
