2yo DD distressed with nappy area

She was screaming and crying last night, and grabbing at her nappy constantly. We reassured her etc and took her nappy off where she was grabbing her bits. She was obviously in a lot of discomfort. I couldn't see anything obvious...

Any ideas?

Worms? Maybe check her bottom tonight when she's asleep (if she's still complaining of it being uncomfortable). Worms can be painful as well as really itchy, but easy to sort with some ovex & a thorough clean of beds & towels etc

ShovingLeopard · 17/05/2018 22:10

Oh no, poor thing. Urinary infection?

BlueLightPanda · 17/05/2018 22:12

Take her to your GP tomorrow if you can get an appointment or a walk in centre if you can’t.

KellyBailey · 17/05/2018 22:13

Try to get her to pee on a potty and get a sample to take to the doctors, sounds like a UTI.

Penfold007 · 17/05/2018 22:20

Sounds grim but look at her bottom with a torch at night when it is dark. Check for threadworms

Gunpowder · 17/05/2018 22:22

I'd say worms most likely too.

MummaGiles · 17/05/2018 22:24

My first thought was either UTI or worms

ohlittlepea · 17/05/2018 22:25

Uti xx

Bourbonbiccies · 17/05/2018 22:30

Worms... especially if she was distressed only at night

BirthdayKake · 18/05/2018 06:22

Thanks for replies... Seems pretty much 50/50! I can't get a doctor's appointment for a good three weeks and she seemed a bit better.

My initial thought was worms, as it was at night. She was grumpy and emotional yesterday through the day but I expect she was shattered! She normally sleeps perfectly. I'm prone to UTIs and obviously they hurt in the daytime too.

She had just had two days at the childminders' so I suppose she could've picked up worms from there.

I will TRY to have a look tonight while she's sleeping but I'm not sure I'll get anywhere. Plus I have this weird fear of her having memories of her mum looking at her private area while she was asleep Confused

If you think she has a uti just call the doctor. They wont make you wait 3 weeks!

acornsandnuts · 18/05/2018 06:34

A GP will see children as priority. Call them this morning and explain it’s for a 2 year old.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/05/2018 06:34

GPS have same day appointments.
If it’s not too far to go, then turn up at your surgery at 8 am or whenever they start answering the phones, I have done this in the past

8pinksnails · 18/05/2018 06:40

Doctors will see kids much sooner than 3 weeks, give them a call for an emergency appointment this morning

BirthdayKake · 18/05/2018 08:10

I'm walking past the doctors on the school run, but she was a bit better last night, and there's no way she'd let a doctor examine her...

Why are you making excuses not to get your child medical help?

Wolfiefan · 18/05/2018 08:14

If it could be a UTI she needs to be seen.

TryingToForgeAnewLife · 18/05/2018 08:15

Just get the medication for worms anyway. No harm in treating it even if you're not sure

BirthdayKake · 18/05/2018 08:19

Good point trying.

Excuses Confused

I don't think I am, but I was brought up to not make a fuss at the doctors dad was a doctor

Also how do I get a urine sample? She's only just turned 2 and won't use the potty

lornathewizzard · 18/05/2018 08:23

Pharmacy wouldn’t give me medication for worms ‘just incase’ because it reduces effectiveness over time. Just advised to use sudacrem if still sore but no sign of worms.

TryingToForgeAnewLife · 18/05/2018 08:29

Then tell pharmacy you have got them

ShovingLeopard · 18/05/2018 09:07

Go to the GP and explain your concerns. They will definitely fit her in today if you say you think she might have a UTI. They can help with techniques for catching urine.

loopylou1984 · 18/05/2018 11:14

Our GP with have pads you can put inside the nappy. They catch the irons then you use a syringe to draw out a sample. Very easy. Reception can probably give you one and then you can just pop the sample in and ask them to test it. You probably won't even need an appointment unless it comes back positive.
